Hi all!
So had VM and Sub Contractors out this morning running Fibre cables in my street and Northampton is one of the county's due for FTTP rollout this year still (Doubt that).
Anyone know how long it takes from cables being ran to me being able to switch / order an FTTP connection? Currently on the Mega Volt bundle with 1Gig internet and Hub 5 but super excited for the Hub5x with 10G ethernet and a decent FTTP connection.
Thanks

Thanks for popping back to us @89537kay3
So sorry for not understanding but what exactly are you wondering applies to current customers?

VM's new fibre network is being made live on an area by area basis. If you see new cabinets next to existing ones then the area won't take long to be ready. However, there is no published list of which areas will be handed over for migration or when. My expectation is that broadband-only customers on the HFC networks will be targeted first for migration.

Yeah - The new dark green cabinet is installed, not sure if it's wired up but it's deffo installed and they installed all the fibre cables under the path between the different points a few days prior.
There is a published list available online of when areas are due to go live, and Northampton is still due to go live this year. So i'm hopefuly it's soon. I've already made clear to VM that FTTP from other providers is readily available and if they can't migrate I will be leaving, and they reassured me that when we go live, i can phone up and transfer over. The only question left is will they leave coaxel in place for now for TV's or will they swap out to stream boxes (Either doesn't bother me).

Are existing customers able to transfer / migrade from coaxel / DOCSIS internet to the new FTTP internet, when it's made live in that area?

Everyone will have to migrate to the new network, but we don't know the schedule except that getting fibre to all the last cabinets is planned for end-2028. The migration is not expected to complete until around 2040. I'm expecting emailed invitations initially to broadband-only customers.

Hi @89537kay3 thanks for your reply.
We do hope that this is up and running for you soon! As mentioned, we will keep you posted when this is live for you.
Once this is the case, you can speak to our Sales Team and they will inform you about the types of connection we can do for you.
Many thanks

Don’t hold your breath. We’ve had the new dark green cabinets in the area for close on a year with no sign of any changes being offered.

Virgin were out this week connecting up the cables and running the Fibre. I've spoke to VM who said it should be going live in the "coming months".

In my case it took six months from when the fibres were initially fitted on the telephone poles (which seemed to be the first thing they did) to it been available to order. I kept a close eye on it, and spoke to various VM contractors when they came out doing other work. From the first day they fitted the fibres I registered my interest, and I eventually got an email telling me I could order on the Monday, when only on the previous Saturday a contractor had finally fitted the boxes (low down) on the telegraph poles. This was just before Christmas (19th) and it was installed and working on the 11th Jan, the date I requested (first option was 9th Jan.). All is working well 😄

We were XGS-PON infill area (no previous Docsis/coax). From the first cabinet being installed on the main road, then more cabinets and micro trenching, to order live was about 6 months. All depends on civils, trunk fibre connections etc. Once order placed < 1 month to connection. Subcontract dug the garden (rubbish job) VM final connect was fine.
