If you want the uSwitch deal you have to buy through their website as the "affiliate referral" process includes being directed to a VM specific landing page which provides the deal from uSwitch referrals. As part of the signing up process VM will ask for your current provider (Sky) and your account details. By selecting Sky, you are opting into the One Touch Switch process. So, VM will deal with this and you do not contact Sky (unless you have Sky's TV in which case you have to call Sky to cancel). Re: Virgin Media Start Opening FTTP Upgrade Areas to Existing UK Customers The RFoG → XGS-PON migration is more complex than it might appear. Although both technologies use FTTP, they operate very differently, and Virgin Media must run both networks in parallel during the migration. In the field, the XGS-PON OLT cannot fit into existing RFoG OLT cabinets, so separate XGS-PON OLT cabinets will be installed, almost certainly next to the RFoG cabinets to reuse fibre ducts and power supplies. No additional aggregation or distribution cabinets are expected; the existing RFOG ones can be reused. Customer fibres will be re-patched (most likely) or re-spliced in the aggregation cabinets from RFoG to XGS-PON as needed. At the customer premises, the ONT, hub, and TV box(es) will be removed and replaced with a Hub 5X and Stream box(es). (Technicians generally do not remove coaxial cabling.) By this point, VoIP must be working over XGS-PON. Hub 5X devices can be pre-provisioned for VoIP, so migrating phone users is as simple as unplugging the line from the DOCSIS hub and plugging it into Hub 5X. Once all customers on an RFoG OLT have migrated, the RFoG cabinet can be powered down, and its CMTS port disabled in software or powered down. Re: Intermittent Streaming buffering bbc iplayer etc DOCSIS Sheffield S11 Put your hub back into router mode and then call VM again as call centre agents at least have a script for this and can get a tech booked. Re: Virgin Media Start Opening FTTP Upgrade Areas to Existing UK Customers Just to clarify about Giffgaff (which is not part of Project Mustang): this is on nextfibre only, and if a VM customer is also on nexfibre then there is a standard process called One Touch Switch (OTS) whereby that customer asks the gaining provider (Giffgaff) to do the switch from the losing provider (VM). Note that it's not possible to switch to Giffgaff from Project Mustang's network as the nexfibre and VM networks do not overlap. What should also be noted is that there is no news yet about VoIP from the hub 5X. This has to be done in order to migrate the legacy phone users over, and I expect this to go live soon as there is a cutoff date of 31 January 2027 when PSTN must be shut down forever. It's a big issue and perhaps worth its own thread. Re: This cost of RAM This is actually a good question, and the answer is no. VM has produced hubs for years for multiple good reasons and this won't change. And having a modem separate from a router will increase the overall need for RAM. In any case VM's hubs are already engineered to use minimal RAM for running the Linux OS, the web admin interface, the DHCP server, the firewall's state table, VM's remote‑management agent, Wi‑Fi management, NAT table and routing control, logging and diagnostics and firmware update system. However it's hardware which does the heavy lifting with SoCs for packet routing / NAT acceleration and a dedicated ASIC to offload heavy packet processing from the main CPU. Running low RAM can affect performance under load, but VM (or rather its Liberty Global master) won't add RAM costing £2 per hub at a total cost of £10m — a significant expense for minimal perceived benefit to most subscribers. In summary hardware (ASICs and specialised chip blocks) handle the majority of the heavy-lifting tasks, while software mostly orchestrates and manages things. Incidentally, if you've ever wondered how STBs like the V6 and 360 can process that heaviest of demands (switching channels which usually takes well under a second), it's the same answer: hardware does the heavy lifting and these boxes also run minimal RAM. Re: Port sky number to virgin number possible? If you have high SNR then it needs to be fixed. Have you reported this to VM? Re: Water meter damaged by virgin media First of all, you must act otherwise Thames Water will go in and repair, then bill you at an unfriendly rate. You must get from the council all the information they have such as permit number and whether a reinstatement inspection was done. Also get from Thames Water a written statement saying that the leak is on the customer side and that the meter or pipe was damaged by external works (makes it hard for VM to wriggle out of responsibility). S, how do you get a repair done? The options are: Get your insurance company to do the repair (assuming you even have cover for third-party utility damage). This sounds good as the job will get done soon but you must pay the excess (often £100-£500), premiums may rise for several years, the claim is recorded on the CUE database, and the insurer may refuse to pursue Virgin Media. Many homeowners end up out of pocket and still fighting the utility company, which is why insurers often discourage these types of claims. Hire a competent and insured plumber to repair and then bill VM. This sounds good as you're in control but you have to pay upfront, have to find a properly qualified plumber and there's no guarantee of getting a full or even a partial refund from VM. Get VM to do the repair. This sounds good as Thames Water will suspend the 14‑day requirement once informed and you'll have no upfront cost but the job will take weeks or months and VM may even deny it was at fault. Re: V360 - Watchlist no longer shown This is a bug at the back end, so not a fault with any box. Let's say a backend change is buggy and that causes something on the home screen to break. Why? Because the UI (user interface) is dynamically built by Lightning, and Lightning is defensive: if the backend returns malformed data and as a result a rail fails to initialise it is silently dropped, and the result: Watchlist vanishes. When you say “Watchlist” the voice service calls the Watchlist backend directly and works as it bypasses the Home screen assembly entirely. The reason why this fault is taking weeks to fix as there might be a backend bug to fix and the UI then has to be tested as well.
