One way is to get a MiFi router and a data-only 4G SIM card. In most cases the SIM is activated for a fixed period, commonly 30 days, and you can easily add credit if needed. Re: routers Wait a bit as VM is upgrading hub 3s with hub 5s. If this is offered take it and see if you still need your own router. Re: VM upgrading all Hub 3 and 4s to Hub 5 You might think it odd to have a press release about a free hub upgrade and Volt. What I think this is about is that VM hub 3 customers on M500 can, with the hub 5, get Gig1 if they have an O2 plan. But regardless of what the press release means, it's a pretty shoddy piece of work. Re: VM upgrading all Hub 3 and 4s to Hub 5 This makes entire sense as VM now has sufficient supplies of the hub 5 to standardise on it and get the significant benefits of capacity efficiency that DOCSIS 3.1 brings and reduced maintenance. As with all upgrades there might be some problems where users have a marginal coaxial line but VM has the means to deal with this. Re: HUB 5 - Handset Just to be clear: VM, like almost all PSTN operators, are switching to VoIP from their hubs. So, you plug a legacy analogue phone into your hub's TEL 1 port with an RJ11 to BT adapter which VM supplies. (My BT Decor 2600 V2 works flawlessly.) Or to put it another way: you cannot use a VoIP phone. If you need to use your phone in multiple locations in your home the usual practice is to connect a DECT main handset's base to the hub with additional handsets if needed in other rooms (might be handy to have main handset in living room and addional handset in bedroom). Re: I have to completely delete Youtube from my Virgin media TV box The 10-device limit has nothing to do with VM as its boxes are for streaming YouTube and not for downloading (which is for mobile devices and PCs). And even if you try to exceed that limit YouTube automatically de-authorises the oldest device in your download list - so not a big issue. As you're leaving VM it would be good practice anyway to sign out of your Google account on any device (like a V6, 360 or Stream) you no longer control. Also sign out of any other apps like Netflix. Re: 4k NOT ok! Not necessarily a fault, but support for HDCP 2.2 is mandatory - so what's the make and model? And it's best to use an Ethernet cable for the Stream box. Here's some general guidelines. Connect the source (the Stream box in this case) to the AVR's input port (often labelled “CBL/SAT” or “STB”), do not use any dedicated ARC or eARC port which is for passing video to a soundbar. Connect the AVR’s HDMI output to the TV's HDMI 1 input. In all cases use High Speed HDMI cables of up to 5m in length. Now consult the AVR's manual to set the Pass-Through mode, often called "HDMI Pass-Through", "Active Pass-Through" or "Direct" so that no video processing is done. If it still doesn't work the HDMI handshake may have failed (common with UHD sources) so unplug everything, wait for 30 seconds and power-cycle devices in this order: TV → AVR → box.
