I upgraded to the 1GB internet and saw a £35 activation fee? I was told it’s free since I don’t require an engineer coming out. Why all these hidden charges I didn’t sign up for?

VM have two separate charges - installation fee and activation fee. They avoid making this clear at the start, but if they don't get you with one they will probably get you with the other.
