My folks are in their late 80s and had no issue with resolving this situation.
Consider a cordless phone with 3 handsets - the base unit connects to the Hub / Router and the 2 additional handsets can be placed where ever is handy.
Don't aim to remain tied to a telephone systems that dates back to the early 1900s !
