Adding blueyonder.co.uk account to web gmail - pop3 authentication fails

Hi, I'm trying you add my VM emails into gmail but I can't get the pop3 authentication to work

gmail_vm.jpg

username: my @blueyonder email address

password: my virginmedia account pwd

server: pop3.blueyonder.co.uk port: 995

I've also tried pop3.virginmedia.com but get the same result

What am I missing/doing wrong here? The pwd is correct, unless there's a different pwd for the pop3 server to the virginmedia account?

Any help gratefully appreciated as I'm looking to move my historic emails out of VM

Thanks in advance

The answer to that question is "Yes, these days there is a different password".

Virgin Media have recently made another change to their email service which means that you now have to generate an app specific password to use instead or your webmail password when you access that email address via any third party email apps or client.  In this case you are using Gmail as an email client.

That may be a problem for you if you do not have access to the My Virgin Media account for the Blueyonder address.

Sign in from this link https://my.virginmedia.com/home/signIn   using that Bllueyonder  email address and existing password.  That should take you to the relevant "My Virgin Media" account for that email address.
Then click on the "Account settings" tab, then  the "Account details" tab. Scroll down that page to "Mailbox app password management." and click on "Manage".
You can then generate an app password which will be in the format:        video-post-mossy-sharp
You will then need to enter that new app password (including the "-") into the password field in the Blueyonder email settings in Gmail instead of the normal webmail password.

Post back with how that goes.

VM have recently changed the log in requirements for accessing VM Mail via third party apps.

If you change the password for the account in My Virgin Media > Account settings > Account details you will not be able to use the new password to access the account via an email client. Email client access now requires an app specific password which can be generated in the MyVM > Account Settings > Account details > Mailbox App password management

Try using the generated app password in the gmail settings.  Also check the gmail settings to look for the option to accept less secure accounts.
