How many here are fighting to get Virgin/ntlworld Email to work?

notsonewuser
On our wavelength

Having lost access to ntlworld account and apparently needing an 'APP' password to access it via thunderbird. I'm repeatedly being asked to change email address and passwords while apparently in a continual loop .

Since I am only trying to get an APP password for a 'external' email address (not my main VM.com one) why cannot it be sent my VM.com address rather than some third party one?

so

HOW MANY HERE ARE GETTING THE SAME RUN_AROUND FROM VM/02 ?

Pathetic really, given I have an email account then I need yet another email account to see my email account.

Can you imagine any other company doing this?

Google as an instance would have at least double the amount of email addresses needed and twice the server capacity to do something as stupid as this.

I am!

It has now been a week since my email stopped working. This is impacting my business.

Your business deserves better than Virginmedia email.

We ALL deserve better than VirginMediocre !

All that is required (from my point of view) is a way to get this 'APP' password securely from VM's generator to me.

So, how about posting the bloody thing snail-mail ?  OR have a computer voice ring me and dictate the thing?

Or, since you have my gmail address and are using it for password reset message , why do I have to change the password every time??? just to access the PW generator .

Or - shock horror - LET ME DECIDE MY OWN LEVEL OF SECURITY ! and let me make up the password .

[edit]

Anyone there at VM know how to use PGP?  I can use PGP to generate a public key , you can encrypt the key with that and securely transfer the password.

But why go through so much pain to keep using VM email, when far better alternatives are available?

You will have to move anyway, when either (a) you get a better broadband deal elsewhere, or (b) they decide to stop it.

Because I have been using my ntlworld.com address for 30+ years everybody I know uses it and only recently (since Oh-Oh got involved) has it been such a PITA.

The thing is that Virgin Media stopped issuing new email accounts in May 2022.

Since then new VM customers have to use their existing email address to sign up to a VM broadband account and existing customers can no longer create new secondary email accounts.

Currently VM still support the email accounts of their existing broadband customers but  they are closing down VM email accounts that are no longer linked to a live VM broadband contract.

It seems that VM no longer see the provision of an email service as a key part of their business model going forward and  the VM email service appears to have an uncertain.future.

All I can say is that I certainly would not rely on  a VM email account as my business email account.

Insisting on using a VM email account ties you to VM broadband, even when better/cheaper services become available.

And it would not be surprising if at contract renewal time VM offered less attractive terms to customers who they know are going to stay with them for the email.

Yes, that's always been the big downside with relying on VM email accounts.
