internal wiring

Hi all, I'm about to order Virgin TV with broadband, 1 x 360 main box and 1 x 360 mini box. Can someone please confirm the following, I'm an electrician and I want to wire my house for the engineer pre install.

*Cable spec RG6 7mm ?

*Run a CAT5/RJ45 from the router location to each box ?

*Run a coax from the router location to each box ?

*Does the fibre come into the house to be terminated ? or is it done in a joint box on the outside wall where the service conduit exits the ground ?

*If the fibre does terminate outside, how many coax need to be ran from this location to my router location ?

Many thanks Nick.

You can't pre-wire for a VM install - they use their own specialist triple-shielded coax and won't install using third party coax.

I believe the usual advice is to pre-drill holes and use pull-ropes to ease the install.

RG6 or RG11 is only used externally from the cabinet to the property in HFC areas. The cable used inside is specialist triple screened cable, as ingress from broadcast TV/Radio & Mobile Phone use must be avoided.

*Run a CAT5/RJ45 from the router location to each box ?

Your call. Your internal network is your responsibility.

*Run a coax from the router location to each box ?

As per the answer to Q1. Install conduits & draw strings to allow the installer to pull VMs coax.

*Does the fibre come into the house to be terminated ? or is it done in a joint box on the outside wall where the service conduit exits the ground ?

VM operates two delivery systems. The most common is HFC (Hybrid Fibre/Coaxial). This is basically Fibre to node cabinet, driving a further 10 to 15 “slave” cabinets over high grade copper coax. The other is RFoG (Radio Frequency over Glass) where fibre terminates on the front wall. Only the most recent builds use this technique.

*If the fibre does terminate outside, how many coax need to be ran from this location to my router location ?

As per Q1 above, you are not allowed to connect your own coax to the network.

Many thanks Nick.
