All the internal install is done separately by VM technicians. Re: Recording TV To add to the above, VM now runs two types of distribution network. Traditional cable services run over copper coaxial cables still make up most of the network & these are capable of driving the V360 recording boxes. In the newer cable areas services are provided over full fibre. You cannot connect V360 boxes to these networks & can only use Stream boxes which interface 100% with the hub for all services. Re: VM upgrading all Hub 3 and 4s to Hub 5 For me going to the hub 5 would be a pain. My current hub 3 runs off a 3 metre 2 core mains cable that runs in an overcrowded trunking direct into the power brick at a favourable central position in the house for WiFi. Moving to a hub 5 would mean having to fit a full 3 core mains cable inside it to put a 3 pin plug at the hub end. Hub 3 is performing fine atm so won’t be changing anytime soon. Re: Buffering stream box on recordings Are both the 360 box & the Stream box using WiFi? Live channels come direct from the internet to the Stream box & not via the 360, which gets its channels directly from the coax connection. So if both are using WiFi for playback it is effectively utilising double the bandwidth for this operation. Re: Wall box, query if compatible with virgin? You are in a legacy network area, so the service is through a high grade copper coaxial cable. Coax cables can easily deliver “fibre” internet speeds as high as 10Gb, so it does not matter what type of network VM has in your area, the speed you order is the speed you should expect to get. Re: Logging into router causes certificate error NETGEAR have started issuing certificates you can download for their routers, although I don't know if this will help with VMs. https://kb.netgear.com/000061003/I-get-a-security-warning-in-my-browser-when-I-try-to-log-in-to-my-NETGEAR-or-Orbi-router-what-do-I-do Re: Wall box, query if compatible with virgin? Comcast was absorbed into Virgin Media some years ago. It is the same network, & the wiring should be fine. Make sure you push the connector from the provided self install kit onto the terminal marked "TV" in the bottom of the diplexer/isolator outlet. You might want to try removing the paint from the terminal or you could end up with a poor connection. Re: VM External Cable Feed in garden to Omnibox on house. Do not do any DIY work on VMs coax cabling. It could cause RF noise ingress that affects the performance not only of your connection, but potentially the entire street. VM will charge £25 for a technician callout, & will likely fit a gel pack connector to extend the existing cable. Re: Loss of all Services in Area 22 Area codes are for billing purposes, & refer to the cable companies VM has absorbed, so could be in multiple geographic areas where that company won franchises. They do not relate to a specific location, so you are far better quoting the nearest town. If you are in a traditional cable area, something as simple as a public electricity supply failure in an estate between the customer and the fibre node (which can be 1km away) can cause a cable service outage. This will not show on VMs systems. If it is a street equipment failure it usually shows on the telephone status line within an hour. Re: Virgin TV 360 box being moved from my house to my dad's house. VM cannot change provisioning of boxes from one account to another. They would have to issue new boxes to both accounts. Also bear in mind that V360 only works on the traditional cable network. Newer fibre only connections can only run Stream boxes.
