Upgrade swap to 5

I got an email from VM saying my current HUB is outdated and needs replacing for free. The new Hub has arrived. I have scoured the Internet and cannot find a straight answer. I need a confirmed answer and not a guess.

I have the current hub in Modem mode and use my own purchased router and wired access point in the house to provide my network with what I need.

The box the new hub came in makes you believe that the swap is as simple as removing the old hub and replacing the new one, however, my setup isn't the same as the default VM customer setup, with the current hub being in Modem mode.

So, is it a simple swap or is there more to it? I am asking as just like you, my Internet connection is my house, so many devices use the Internet.  So, it has to be as painless as possible. Will the new HUB go straight into MODEM mode or not?

All good advice but personally I would recommend using a cabled connection and avoid WiFi when doing such admin tasks.

I did use a cabled connection, not sure where I stated I connected via WiFi.

"Login using those login details, then when setting up the WiFi, change the name to what you used previously and keep the same WiFi password you used previously too"

Just a misunderstanding around the statement above, as when in modem mode the Wifi becomes irrelevant.  Cheers

Apologies, I am referring to the steps when you are in 192.168.0.1 it asks you to set up WiFi and also here it gives you the option to rename and change the password, so for me, and perhaps for others in the future for added reassurance I changed the SSID back to what it was along with the same password.

So to make the transition as smooth as possible, I saved going around and inputting a new SSID and password. in all my devices that use WiFi

Yes, understand.  However in my case, when in modem mode the Hub is just a "Bridge" and my Router has no Wifi.  I use PoE access points, and this negates any wifi requirements from the Hub.  So as you say, no need to change any of the Wifi kit to new SSID's etc.

I wasn't referring to your own case, I was helping someone else in the future who may have a similar concern.
