I got an email from VM saying my current HUB is outdated and needs replacing for free. The new Hub has arrived. I have scoured the Internet and cannot find a straight answer. I need a confirmed answer and not a guess.
I have the current hub in Modem mode and use my own purchased router and wired access point in the house to provide my network with what I need.
The box the new hub came in makes you believe that the swap is as simple as removing the old hub and replacing the new one, however, my setup isn't the same as the default VM customer setup, with the current hub being in Modem mode.
So, is it a simple swap or is there more to it? I am asking as just like you, my Internet connection is my house, so many devices use the Internet. So, it has to be as painless as possible. Will the new HUB go straight into MODEM mode or not?

It will remain in router mode by default, so you'll have to login to the HUB settings to change to modem mode.

The problem you have is that Virgin will disable your old hub and you need to activate the new one. I don't have a hub 5 but you should be able to put it into modem mode same as your old one, which hub are you replacing.
I am sure you will receive some more answers.

Yes, the new HUB should be fine in modem mode.
Keep in mind your Public IP address will change, though.

Hub 3 with 200 connection
I don't think I was as clear as I thought. I didn't mean can it, I meant from the get-go, will it be in Modem mode because the settings are set on the old hub, or do I need to tell this one by logging in?

If you had a hub 3 that should only need replacing if you go to 1gb, and you do need to go into the hub settings to set it to modem mode and reset your passwords etc to match what you set before, nothing gets carried over.

Thanks,
Job done. The hardest part was getting the old hub disconnected and the new one connected as the hubs had to be spun rather than the cable. LOL.
roy247 as per my OP VM asked me to change it as they said my old hub was out of date.

Just to add to this for anyone in the future who may need a similar answer. The login details for 192.168.0.1 is on the bottom of the Hub. Take a photo for reference
Login using those login details, then when setting up the WiFi, change the name to what you used previously and keep the same WiFi password you used previously too.
Once all that has finished, change it to MODEM mode and let it do its thing. It may take longer than the 5 minutes it suggests on the page but bear with it. It will work.

Furthermore, you will need to reboot your own router after the HUB is good to go and showing a stable green light.
I am using a UDM by Ubiquiti with one of their switches and access points.
