(When referring to being able to connect to wifi or ethernet I mean connect and use the internet via that method)
Started yesterday afternoon with broadband just going down completely. I tried rebooting the pc, unplugging the hub and hard reset of the hub and nothing worked.
My pc will connect to the internet via a wifi hotspot on my phone or via mifi device no problem, so I know the wifi card is working ok.
Waited ages for CS to answer and while going through the same process with them yet again (running up and down the stairs) the wifi for my smart tv and firestick started working again. However the ethernet and wifi for my pc were still out. My phone also connected to VM wifi no problem. However pc still unable to access internet on either connection.
Finally did yet another hard reset as requested by CS which cut us off (wonderful digital landline) and she did not ring me back. Great customer service. This hard reset knocked out the wifi connection to all devices again.
I rang back and went through the explanation with another CS agent who came back and said he had discovered an intermittent issue and it would be monitored for 24 hrs before deciding if an engineer call out was required.
Doing a service check sometimes got the same message, but most of the time got an "everything is fine" response.
Had to use the personal wifi hotspot for most of the evening but later the firestick wifi started working again.
This morning the pc was also able to connect via wifi but not via ethernet. Wanting to have the wired connection I rebooted the pc hoping this would work, only for it to once again not be able to connect with either ethernet or wifi.
It has remained the same all day.
I got the text this afternoon from VM saying they'd been monitoring and there was no problem found.
Everything remains the same now. My smart tv seems to be running normal speed over wifi as does my phone.
My pc will not provide internet via either wifi or ethernet. My pc connects to any other wifi connections' internet without issue.
I've just tried to connect a Samsung tablet which hasn't been switched on for a few days and the internet is timing out.*
Doing a service check on the VM website just now shows no issues found.
However there is very obviously an issue.
I checked the hub settings (hub 3) and there are no paused devices or anything showing which might be an issue.
*While typing up this message the Samsung tablet suddenly started working on the VM wifi but then 30 seconds later started timing out again.
Does this sound like I need a new hub?

Yes do a network reset short of doing a OS reinstall
also change the computer name to like PC7

Tried System Restore this afternoon (a pita due to Windows 0x800x70005 error).
No dice. The issue remains.
Anything I can try to rule out a hardware issue before I go down the reset or reinstall OS route?
EDIT>>Internet access via VM wifi on Samsung tablet and my phone is intermittent - currently down. Access via the wifi extender still possible (although much reduced in speed).

Do a USB Linux Mint

^Thanks - will look into that.
Update - the ethernet connection suddenly showed as connected to the internet. However the first speed test was 35Mb/s (300 is my package) then the internet stopped working. Settings still showed as connected. Couldn't access wifi while it was connected.
Disabling ethernet got the wifi extender working again. Trying to reconnect ethernet now gets unidentified network again and no internet.
I've changed nothing - I rolled back the Sys Restore from earlier.

Sounds like windows is having a bad time...

I did a repair install of W10 - no change.
Just done a network reset. Initially no change.
Then all the networks disappeared so I rebooted.
Came back with ethernet showing as connected to internet so I did a speed test. 384Mb/s. The connection lasted just long enough to get the result then stopped again.
While I've been typing up this response the wifi has disconnected itself and the ethernet connected again. Giving me full speed.
I have no idea what is going on. I'm loathe to disconnect the ethernet to test the wifi in case it stops working again. Wifi on the phone is giving 112Mb/s

Don't know what happened to my reply - retyping!
I did a repair install of the OS. No change
I did a network reset and initially no change. While testing the different wifi connections they all disappeared so I rebooted again.
PC came back online connected to ethernet and giving me full speed on ookla however the connection only lasted long enough to get the speed test result.
While typing this up here I had a phone call and during the call the wifi connection disconnected and the ethernet connected again. Full speed (380Mb/s).
I typed here that I was loathe to disconnect in case I could not reconnect, and then I had to reboot due to my antivirus updating!
PC came back online and the ethernet will not connect to internet again.
**bleep**.
Have to try and find a usb stick to try the Linux boot to confirm it is/isn't hardware related.

Try booting the computer into Safe Mode + Networking to see if an internet connection is possible with a minimal software stack ( i.e. no overweight security suites ).

Haven't read the previous 3 pages but ... have you got the ethernet connection and the wireless connection both running at the same time?
Often the PC will disconnect wireless card once a network cable is plugged in (typically a motherboard feature) but I have sometimes run into issues in the past if both the wireless card and network card are running together.
Try temporarily disabling one (in Device Manager) and testing, then the other. See if there is any improvement using one at a time and when testing in Safe Mode.

reinstall OS without the antivirus
