crackling on landline

There's a really loud crackling on my landline, either when someone calls me or when I've made the call. I can't see any loose wires or anything obvious that's causing the problem.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your landline, can you confirm for me if have you tried a different phone handset to see if this resolves the issue?

thanks Zoie, I don't own another hand set and I don't know anyone locally who has a landline (and a handset I can borrow), is there another way to check the line?

Also, I have a problem with my set top box not working and so made an engineer appointment for Saturday morning - I can no longer make that appointment, but when I log into my account I can't find the details anywhere to change the date / time - can you advise?

The engineer can also check the land line during the appointment for you.
