Data not adding

Hi, my son and wife's phones have just used up all their data (we think their phones stopped using WiFi and went onto data) so I added 1gb of data. I have received a text to say that it has been added but it hasn't. I did it at 7:30am this morning and now it is 3:50pm. Any ideas as my son needs it to access his bus ticket every morning 🤦‍♂️
