We have set up a pin. However, my son has discovered that if you put the wrong pin in enough it resets to 1234 on the tv 

Is there a way so this reset request goes to the account holder not just resetting by the tv?

The PIN is specific to the box & there is no profile system with TiVO, which is now many years old. So the PIN you set can be set or changed by anyone using the box.
