Annoying volume bar

Is there any way of turning off the annoying volume bar when pausing to read something on the screen. It’s showing at the bottom on mine.

Do you mean the programme progress/buffer bar?

To get this to disappear on pause just press the arrows button to the left or right of pause. The bar will also disappear automatically after about 30 seconds.
