Hi, my ntl email address is suddenly asking for authentication of my account. It is not accepting my password. I have tried to log in via the web page but the web page is not recognising my email address. Please advise!

Is this email linked to a current Virginmedia broadband account? If so, log into that account, find the email address in the menu and you can reset the password there.

Amanda, the first and most important question to ask is this, are you a current VM broadband customer? And secondly, if yes, then have you always been, since setting up the email address, with no break in service, you haven’t moved house etc.

Thank you for your speedy response. I am currently not a customer for the last year or so but have been a customer for many, many years

Thank you - my email address is not currently linked to a VM account. Is this what the issue is?

Ah, right, well according to VM’s terms, the email address and mailbox and all of the email within it, ‘should’ have been deleted about 90 days after you left. As you have found, this doesn’t always happen promptly and leaves the email in a sort of ‘zombie’ state where is is subject to being deleted at any point.
I do suspect, alas, that it has now been deleted for good.
Now if you look at it from VM’s perspective, you aren’t a customer, you aren’t paying them anything, so why should they lift a finger to help you out, for no recompense? But, I do hope that a member of the forum team, once they get to this thread, will offer to help and do whatever they can to, at least, give you temporary access to the mailbox. I wouldn’t bet too much on them being successful though!
BUT, if they do, then I have to stress BUT, this would be a one time only*, short term, ‘get out of jail free card’ opportunity. Assume that this email address is gone, permanently, and is not combing back. Best case scenario, you get a temporary reprieve for time to inform all of your contacts of your new address.
* and I can’t stress this highly enough, they will, absolutely, vaporise all of your email, and, I promise, there is absolutely nothing you can do, legally or otherwise, to prevent it. So if you get the chance, you really must take it as a short term reprieve and take steps to back up any email messages you want to keep.

Wow - this is crazy!! delete your email without any warning????? how is that customer service?? talk about disdain - what incentive is there to rejoin a company that treats its customers like this???
Thank you for your replies, very much appreciated.
I've been trying to find a contact number to speak to someone - its like finding a needle in a haystack, does anyone know any contact details? Hopefully, they will give me a temporary repreive so I can at least advise people!

You would have been notified that the email accounts would be deleted at the point that you closed the broadband account. (it is also contained in the T&Cs but no one ever reads those).
The numbers to ring are 150 free from a VM mobile or landline, or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone (chargeable as standard UK landline phone no.).

Keep an eye on this thread. The Forum Team should join and will try and assist if they can.
VM's position with email is not only in the T&C's but has also been explained by some websites. VM's position was always that VM email is a free add on that's conditional on you being a current customer.
New customers don't even get the option of having email ay more, VM are supporting existing customers with email, and do certainly try and help former customers try and get temporary access to their email even though they're not contractually or legally obliged to do the latter.
Tim
