If the loss of emails has been confirmed by signing into webmail then some possible candidate explanations are:
- compromised email account; should that be a suspicion then follow the advice here, My Virgin Media account has been hacked
- recent software update on device(s) has had unintended consequence resulting in loss of emails
In terms of recovery, if the missing email cannot be found in webmail's Trash folder (or elsewhere within the mailbox) then they are, unfortunately, considered unrecoverable.
