That error message suggests you are accessing your email account via an email app or client. Sadly, the error messages they provide often do not give a clear indication of the underlying problem.

If you try to access the account using Virgin Media's webmail service on their website that will shed a bit more light on what is causing the problem.

  • If you can access the email account ok on the website it suggests that the problem may be with the settings in your email app
  • if you get an error message it means the problem with with the email account itself. For example it may require the password resetting.

Try signing into the webmail account here https://mail2.virginmedia.com/  by entering the email address and then the password when prompted.

Post back with how you get on.

Hey js650,

Welcome to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums.
I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your Ntl world email address. Have you been able to follow the advice from coenoby to look into your email issues?

If you have and its not helped, we can look into this further for you.

Kind Regards,

Steven_L

Thanks for the reply - I did try through Virgin Media webmail and had the same problem. I phoned tech support who changed my password as I couldn't gain access to the account. With the new password I can access my account through Virgin's webmail but not my third party app (Mozilla Thunderbird), webmail is a bit clunky compared to Thunderbird but at least I can access the account.

VM have recently changed the way you access VM Mail via third party apps such as Thunderbird

If you change the password for the account in My Virgin Media > Account settings > Account details you will not be able to use the new password to access the account via an email client. Email client access now requires an app specific password which can be generated in the MyVM > Account Settings > Account details > Mailbox App password management
