It's fairly straight-forward how to get the best picture from your TiVo® - use an HDMI cable and connect it to an HD TV. But what about sound?
To get the best sound, you need Dolby Digital compatible equipment.
When using a separate home cinema system, amplifier or sound bar, the best connection to use is also an HDMI cable where available.
If you don't have an HDMI connection - you could try an optical cable instead.
If this doesn’t work, then here are some workarounds.
- On some TVs with an optical output, you may be able to route the Dolby Digital from the TV to the amp/ surround sound system.
- Changing settings on TiVo box to Help & Setting> Settings> Audio> Dolby Digital>Dolby Digital to PCM will restore stereo sound.
- Some community members have used HDMI to optical adaptors with some success. We’re unable to support or endorse the use of these, but some customers have found they will do the trick.
