Re: some chinese websites cannot be opened

Which web browser(s) have you tried and what error message is shown?

Open a terminal / command shell and try the following DNS lookups:

nslookup baidu.com

and:

nslookup baidu.com 8.8.8.8

is the same Name and Address returned by both lookups?

Re: some chinese websites cannot be opened

What result did the nslookup baidu.com command produce?

FYI, I can reach both websites and the output from the nslookup command returns the same result for each website; an indication that Web Safe is not the cause of the issue.

Other place to look for a possible cause are:

  • antivirus software updates
  • web browser extensions / plug-ins recently updates

Re: some chinese websites cannot be opened

Hello,

Thank you for your help. I did not check anything these days as i have been busy, but i checked today and the websites which did not work are working now. I am not sure how this was resolved, but i am very pleased with VM now, i was thinking of changing the vendor. Thank you.

When you previously ran nslookup baidu.com 8.8.8.8 (which queried Google's public DNS) one of the addresses returned was 220.181.57.216 which is also the address shown in the trace route result posted. However when you ran nslookup baidu.com (to query your default DNS) it returned 92.242.132.24 which resolves to unallocated.barefruit.co.uk which is not the correct DNS result for baidu.com.

Barefruit (barefruit.co.uk) describe themselves as follows:

Barefruit generates highly targeted traffic for ISPs by replacing DNS and HTTP errors with relevant advertising. Operating at network level, Barefruit technology enables ISPs to resolve error traffic across the customer base with no capital outlay.

[source: http://barefruit.co.uk]

Examine your ASUS router's DNS settings, your device's DNS settings, and  then scan the device you ran the nslookup command on for malware; maybe with Malwarebytes' free scanner or similar well know product.
