Incorrect location settings wifi only

Since having our WiFi router changed our household location is miles off. On my phone if I disconnect from the WiFi my location is correct.

This issue has only occurred since the replacement route, the old one didn't have this problem.

I't's a nuisance when using location based apps. How do we rectify this issue?

Re: Incorrect location settings wifi only

i assume it's an android phone?
it'll correct itself over time once the database realises your new SSID is at your location.

mine took about 3-4 weeks when i moved and took my AP with me.
for weeks it kept defaulting back to my old location.

Re: Incorrect location settings wifi only

It is android, yes.

Why does swapping from 1 hub to another through out location. I thought location info was sent to the router based on the area of the country which hasn't changed.

Really don't want to wait weeks for it to fix itself, it doesn't help when trying to check location/distance of ebay items or using dating apps.

Will have to use 4g instead if that's the case

Re: Incorrect location settings wifi only

ip addresses and routers do not have a location. There is no way any site can know this without being hold.

They are worked out based on 3rd party databases that are often wrong.

if you need good location you need to use GPS not wifi/ip based locations

Re: Incorrect location settings wifi only

So if this data is stored on 3rd party databases then a change of router shouldn't have changed my location which is what's happened.

🤔

Re: Incorrect location settings wifi only

The change of router would have changed your IP address.

A change of router would have changed your IP address, the 3rd party sites (Google ect) will be using the last know location of that IP, in time they will catch up with your location.

Re: Incorrect location settings wifi only

exactly. as i said in my first reply, give it time and it'll correct itself
for 3 weeks mine kept defaulting back to my old location about 20 miles away.
once i moved to the window though it always jumped back to the correct location.

Re: Incorrect location settings wifi only

On the other hand, you may not want the whole world to know your location.
