Self install hub5

Hello,

I've tried to install my hub 5 and its just flashing red light.

I don't think I have the right plug?

I've plugged the cable in the only plug I found, but the other cable benith, just goes and stops in the middle of the room, so it's not connected anywhere.

The other plug, the cable does not fit there?

Any ideas, or should I just call the pre install team?

Thanks 😁

If you have a plastic omnibox outside on the wall (where the VM cable comes in from the street) see if you can trace any wires from that into your home.

In picture 1, the metal box isolator is the wrong way around (In / Out connections swapped) although not sure if that would stop a connection entirely but is of little relevance if the cable below is not actually connected to anything!

In picture no 3, where does that cable come from? If you can trace it from outside you might need the adapter mentioned below to connect to.

Picture no. 2 is a TV aerial socket.

Have you checked to make sure there is no other kind of connection? Sometimes there is no wall box, just a trailing cable. The cable could be hidden within, or behind, furniture. Occasionally only a very short stub of wire is left behind often hidden within a blanked-off fitting. A few examples of the kind of things to look for are in the images below from past topics.

A wall box may be branded with the logos of an old cable TV company (not VM). Past occupiers of your property may have removed the cable and sometimes they are removed by other installers, such as satellite TV techs.

If you have a cable/plug trailing from the wall, you may need a coupler adapter to join two plugs together

Also available from the likes of Screwfix, Homebase, Toolstation etc.

If no luck, call the pre-installation and delivery team on 0800 052 1734 explain the problem and request a tech visit to install a socket.

It looks to me that the incoming cable has been cut/removed. If you look to the right of the isolator, you will see a white disc before the white box on the far right. This is where the VM in coming cable was and it went to the isolator, that’s why it’s upside down. You will need a technician’s visit to put in a new cable.

Quite right Tudor. A good spot. Tech visit required most likely.
