Recent packet loss and large ping spikes

Hi.

I have recently (maybe in the past month or so, unsure when it specifically started) been experiencing random ping spikes and packet loss, making the internet unusable for several minutes, this includes web pages never loading and online games becoming unplayable due to the high ping and packet loss. This occurs seemingly at random, for about 2 minutes, and then returns to normal, until the next time it happens. I've been with virgin in my current property for over 2 years and have never had issues like this before, I'd maybe have ping spikes once every 4-5 months for a few seconds, and then return to normal but nothing like this.

I am on a wired connection to my router, and as stated above, this has been basically flawless up until about a month ago.

I've used thinkbroadband.com to get some graphs for my internet over the past week or so, and you can clearly see where the issues are occurring.

I've attached graphs for these dates, in reverse order (not sure why they uploaded like this) Sunday 1st June (Now) -> Saturday 31st May -> etc. etc. -> Monday 26th May

I hope someone can help. Cheers

  • Looks like my files actually uploaded in a completely random order.

The website won't let me upload them again in the correct order, even in a new reply. So, if someone needs them, I may need to find an alternative way to send them over

  • Hello? Can anyone from Virgin help me on this?

The issue was still occurring as of yesterday Monday 2nd June

Have you got anything on your network that might be saturating the connection? I can see points of higher latency on my BQM where I can correlate to my NAS for example doing large uploads to Cloud storage or laptops doing large Windows updates/OneDrive sync tasks.

The drops though, may suggest something more than that - can you see any errors in the Hub logs when these drops occur?

I have a home server that uploads Home Assistant backup but these are maybe 100mb or so and when they occur doesn't line up with the issues with my broadband. I've had the home server and virgin since I moved into the property, over 2 years ago, but have only been experiencing these broadband issues for about a month, something must have changed on virgin's side

  • This issue is still occuring as of 4th of June. To prevent my IP being posted, please click this link to see the graph for the the 4th

  • Here is another example, similar to BQM. This time using discord, you can see the obvious spike to over 500ms ping, this is alongside major packet loss.
