500Mbps giving slow speed between 50-100 Mbps

Hello,

Have the Hub 4; working on desktop with no VPN around 4-5 meters from Hub. Receiving terrible speeds, been testing all morning and have only managed to get above 100Mbps once.

Any support on how to increase the speeds to the 500Mbps?

Thanks!

if this is a network connection ...

+ Speeds below 100Mb/s suggest an out of spec network cable that has de-rated from 1000 to 100 Mb/s.

If this is a WiFi connection ..

+ The desktop may have a 2.4Ghz WiFi adaptor and 100Mb/s would be about the max on a 20/40 Mhz channel width.

Thanks @Client62.

It's a WiFi connection utilising a Linksys AE3000 device; never had an issue getting it to almost 500Mbps with other suppliers

Check the Linksys USB adaptor is connected on the 5Ghz band.

Speed test the service to a Router mode Hub(3/4/5) + your device with the link below.

Once the test begins click on: Run full test to see all the stats.

Given the spec of that device I'd be shocked if you ever saw 500Mbps, unless you are referring to the connection speed, not the broadband speed?

That wireless dongle, the AE3000, is not capable of a 500 Mbps speed test. It's so old even the Hub 3 would be falling back to a slower, older wireless revision to talk with it.

You need to replace that and if your computer is a similar age potentially replace that, too.

You've purchased 500 Mbps and the kit you are using isn't and could never be capable of getting close. It's running WiFi 4, standardised in 2009. We've WiFi 7 coming soon with WiFi 6 and WiFi 6e released. You need at least WiFi 5 / AC.

Thanks all - any wireless dongle you suggest then to improve speeds?
