Can't access Reddit regularly
So, I repeatedly can't access Reddit on my internet. If I change to 5G I can access it immediately. Looking at previous similar issues it looks like I need to change my DNS, but not really sure how to do this? Also, I have a x5 router I think, so I don't know how that affects things. I have tried Googling this but I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere.62Views0likes2CommentsOnline Security
Hi No matter what I do I can't seem to turn on virus protection via My Virgin Media. I keep getting the message 'Sorry the changes you made were not saved, please try again'. Also I have a new privacy warning "This network is blocking encrypted DNS traffic". Once again there is no option to turn this off anywhere. I noticed that there is another (paid) feature Advanced Security. Is it now the case that to access any security features, you have to pay?60Views0likes3CommentsWebsite users from Virgin Media can't access my website, DNS resolution gives the wrong IP
Symptoms: Users from Virgin Media trying to connect to my website can't, it gives them different types of errors related to SSL. After some troubleshooting, I found that the DNS resolution from VM serveres returns the incorrect IP address. Instead of my server's address (which works for everyone else), it returns [MOD EDIT: ip address removed] - lang-sspipxny.network.virginmedia.net. No clue what's happening here ? Is it some kind of blacklist from VM ? I used to have the website on a different domain name and everything was fine, now that i changed to a new one this happens. Also this is just a gaming organization website (organize parties and stuff) nothing extraordinary. Any help appreciated.146Views0likes2CommentsOngoing IP Blacklist Issue Affecting Internet Use – Urgent Assistance Needed
I have been a loyal Virgin Media customer for 12 years, but I am currently facing an issue that severely impacts my ability to use the internet. Despite raising two formal complaints (C-201124714 and C-021224726), I have received no resolution to this matter. Over the past couple of weeks, I have repeatedly encountered Google security prompts and have been unable to access many websites. Upon further investigation, it appears that the IP address assigned to me is linked to a network that is blocked or blacklisted. The specific IP in question is [REMOVED], which belongs to the 82.16.0.0/14 network under ASN 5089 (NTL, GB). Reports confirm the network has been listed at UCEPROTECT-Level 2 due to excessive abuse from other users within this range. I understand that my specific IP has not been directly involved in any abusive activity. However, as part of this “bad neighborhood,” I am unfairly impacted. I am paying for a service that I cannot fully utilize due to Virgin Media’s apparent lack of action to address abuse originating from its network. Supporting Information: IP Lookup Reports confirm the Level 2 blacklist status due to ongoing abuse on the wider network range. My IP is not listed on other major blacklists, including Spamhaus, Spamcop, and Barracuda. The detailed findings can be provided, but here are the key points: My IP: [REMOVED] Network: 82.16.0.0/14 (listed at UCEPROTECT-Level 2) No Level 1 issues with my IP, indicating that the problem stems from other IPs within the same network. Next Steps: I kindly request Virgin Media’s urgent assistance to address this issue: Investigate and resolve the abuse issues leading to the network blacklist. Provide a clear timeline or alternative solution to ensure my service is restored to full functionality. This situation is frustrating, as I rely on my internet service for daily use, and I believe it is Virgin Media’s responsibility to ensure that its network is maintained to prevent such issues. If no resolution is offered soon, I may need to reconsider my options as a customer. I look forward to Virgin Media’s support in fixing this problem promptly. Thank you. We have a company VPN that we use to access databases and other resources. I can access these resources from my computer when I am connected via my mobile network (Vodafone) but when I connect through my home Virgin Media broadband connection I cannot access them. If I perform nslookup against the hostname it routes through a reasonable DNS gateway such as 8.8.8.8 but simply times out. When I am connected through Vodafone the nslookup is able to find the IP address right away (10.x.x.x) I can't determine if it is my VM router (Hub 3.0) causing the issue or if it's further up the line. Have tried resetting router etc.Unable to go online with PS4 - New to VM
Hi All, Hope someone can help me get my sons PS4 online before the school break as he is only allowed to play during school holidays. The PS4 was fine with our previous provider SKY and also works with my mobile hotspot, however it does not connect to VM wifi. We are new to VM only had our package for a month. I am getting a DNS message and have seareched the web and forums for a solution but still unable to log in. Here are the things I have already done: 1: Restarted the router HUB5 and restarted the PS4 - No luck 2: Turned off Child Safe - Restarted the hub - No luck 3: Manually did the DNS to 8.8.8.8 amd 8.8.4.4 as suggetsed in forum - No luck Please can someone help - Thank you969Views0likes5CommentsFailing to connect to ATAS server
Whenever I try to connect to ATAS (trading platform) I get the following errors: Unable to check for updates, the server file failed to load. Error trying to save file: Error downloading "http//updates.overflowtrading.net/v2/platform_beta/wyserver.wys": Unable to connect to remote server. My wife uses this as her day job and while we have no issues via her mobile hotspot, it refuses to work while connected to my Virgin broadband service. Any ideas on how we can resolve this as we cannot do our day job via our phone network! Things I've tried: switching to OpenDNS, updating host file and other things within Windows. A tracert command does eventually reach the server but times out a lot on the route via virgin dns servers. Thanks for any help, Andrew965Views0likes4CommentsHub 5 Intercepting all DNS queries?
Hi, I've just moved to Virgin from Sky. After setting up my Router, and disabling all WebSafe stuff online, I got some weird DNS failing to resolve issues - hostnames that if i switched back to Sky, we're working fine, and my other colleagues can all connect fine. I noticed that I couldn't change the default DNS server on the Router itself, a quick google said that's no longer possible with this new hub. I then updated my Wifi Connection DNS servers on both a Windows and Mac device and both of them claimed to be searching through either 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, but both failed to return the results. I can only assume that VM is intercepting all DNS queries, even when you specifiy an alternative? Also not sure why they're failing to resolve so many different generic AWS domains. Has anyone else had similar issues / knows of a way to fix it? My next port of call will be switching to https based DNS, but I'd rather not 😞Solved6.7KViews0likes14CommentsOpen DNS Resolver
Long story short(ish) - I recently changed my old router after a situation where my original started to fail DHCP requests. I also ended up with a new hub, but, the installer was also seeing that problem that he couldn't immediately fix. Since that router change I also started to receive Open DNS resolver messages and letters from VM. The config was a mirror of what I previously used with minimal WAN side services being used. Tests showed that port 53 wasn't open, yet, my router was indeed continuing to respond to and serving incoming DNS requests (checked from multiple IP addresses using nslookup). I did many tests including removing all devices on my local network, yet, the external DNS responses were still given. I raised the issue with the vendor and had no success so far and have asked for escalation today. Yesterday I SSH'd into the router and analysed what ports on which IP addresses were being monitored, and indeed, both my primary WAN and backup WAN connections were listed. This is from inside the router, not an external view. I have found a config on the router where the DNS provides only Server Fail messages, but this still leaves other vulnerabilities and probably ongoing messages and letters from VM. I suspect that it revolves around defining which DNS my internal devices use (having had numerous problems previously with VM DNS). I won't name the vendor and router yet, but, I think I may need to do that soon to get some attention from them. However, I see a number of other posts about the same manufacturer. I know their emails and letters will be automatically generated, but, there is little point in keeping on telling me while I try to mitigate and fix the problem. Is there any way of advising VM that I am aware of the problem and am dealing with it?Solved2.8KViews0likes9Comments
