Internet issues and inability to change phone number

Internet went down today, did all the usual stuff but still just flashing green light. Apparently needs a tech so booked that for Tuesday, earliest date available (which is ridiculous and I expect money off my bill to reflect the 4 days without connection). More annoying though is that I need to change the number on the account in case the tech needs to call me on the day - because let's face it, bound to turn up when I'm on the school run because the time slots are ridiculously vague. 

Keep getting an error when trying to change the number. Can some virgin employee sort this out please via this forum, I don't have time to sit on hold for six years just to change a phone number...
