Embarrassingly slow speed
My internet speed the last few weeks has been incredibly slow compared to what it was before. Typically I have been able to break at least 50mb/s on my computer but as of the last few weeks I can barely break 20mb/s with occasional dips to <10mb/s for considerable periods of time. I have gone through each step typically recommended on the status check website including: resetting the router, changing position and re-plugging. I've even tried alternative methods like changing my DNS IP on the computer to see if that was the issue but to no avail. If anyone could please look into my router for me I would really appreciate it. I can provide the name account holder and additional details if needed. I will also confirm that this is not an issue with my computer as the Wi-Fi is also very slow even when I'm right next to the router. FYI I use an ethernet cable. I am currently on the M500 plan and have a broadband speed of 276.30mbps in the lounge where the WiFi box is. However as soon as I leave this room the speed drops to 39.36 downstairs and 3.42 upstairs. This is not sustainable. I have seen people able to get boosters free of charge due to virgin not offering the service set out. Does anyone know if this is a possibility or how I can fix the issue without paying an extra £10pm for each booster!75Views0likes4CommentsSpeed issues / Pods
Had a 1gig line installed two days ago… speed seems ok in all but one of the bedrooms, where my son has his PlayStation. Speed is typically around 10mb download, which is unusable. i have run tests on the virgin app to confirm this, however it is not clear how to get a ‘pod’ issued for a speed under the guaranteed minimum limit if 30mb. i have tried calling and end in an infinite loop of automated robots. Can any one help? There is nothing in the app I can see to order a pod. It just tells me to restart the router.39Views0likes1CommentSpeedtest on Ookla Speedtest App
Hi All I've just had Virgin FTTP broadband installed 1 gig with hub 5 yesterday, but every time I run a speed test on the Ookla speedtest app, before I start it, it says my internet connection may be unstable. I have tried this on my works broadband and this does not happen and also tried it on my friends and again it has not happened and it did not happen on my last provider when I tested it, just before Virgin's installation. I believe there are discussions from other members on here regarding this and their issue was sorted, but they do not say how. Please could someone advise. Many thanks.57Views0likes1CommentNot getting speed I pay
I've been with Virgin Media for about a month now. I've moved into a new build house and this is currently my 2nd virgin media router in that time. I've done the samknows speedtest and the speed to the router is 1.1GB which is what I pay for. However, the speed from the router to the devices fluctuates massively and hasn't been any higher that 300mbps despite paying for 1.1GB. I understand that I will never truely get 1.1GB and would expect anything 800mbps> but I am getting no where near this speed. I've called Virgin Media 3 times regarding this, we have performed switching off/on, reset etc. An engineer has came out to change the router. At the time the engineer tested the speed which was 600mbps> and told me this should increase over time but it has not. I am out of ideas, can anyone recommend anything?84Views0likes7CommentsRe: Upgraded to 1Gb but getting 500mb speeds
I am having the same issue. I was on 500mbps before, and used to get around 450mbps. I cancelled my contract and just before my Sky install I was offered 1000mbps to stay with Virgin... I stayed and got the new hub... but I am still getting only around 200-450mpbs. Its as if the new speeds have not been activated as its literally no different and was the only reason I stayed and didn't just move to Sky and have cheaper 500mpbs with them. Lucky I am in my 14 days still so I might just cancel and still move to Sky anyway if its not resolved.17KViews1like67CommentsSam knows real speed
Hello, I can't seem to get the sam knows real speed to work at all! My PC is connected to the modem through ethernet cable and I keep getting this. Reason I'm doing this is because I have a 1GB package and other speed test sites shows I'm only getting half... virgin won't accept other speed test websites and to use this website. Please any advice on how to fix this is appreciated!243Views0likes10CommentsCan somebody check my BQM with Gig1
Hello, Would any of you experts like to check my BQM, please. I've been experiencing a fair bit of slow streaming and lag and the connection just generally feels a little sluggish. For the most part my house is hard wired with 2.5Gb ethernet but obviously not every device supports that. Recently my neighbour has had VM installed and they have tapped off our external brown plastic box, I questioned them and they said it would be temporary and somebody else would come to install another line but this has not happened. Well, to the best of my knowledge anyway. https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality/share/fc9fbfedde634eb01e057d7969f183729c300fe9 I can share logs from my hub but I'm not sure what is required.114Views0likes11CommentsHalf speed hero
Hello I've been running into a strange issue that I just can't seem to figure out, so I thought I’d share it here to see if anyone has come across something similar or has any advice. I’d really appreciate any help or insights! Networking Kit: VM Home Hub 4 in Modem Mode. Asus RT-AX92U is Primary connected to the VM Hub via Cat6 (provided by VM), from Port 1 on the hub to the WAN port on the router. Asus RT-AX92U Secondary is connected to the primary router via a mesh network setup. Networking Setup and Issue: I’m experiencing significant speed loss between my Virgin Media Hub and my router. Here’s what I’ve tested so far: When I plug a wired connection directly into Port 1 on the VM Hub, I get speeds over 1 Gbps, so the external connection appears solid. When I run a speed test through the router, even using a wired connection, I only see about half that speed. Wi-Fi performance is also capped (as expected to some degree), but still lower than it should be. What I’ve tried: Swapping Ethernet cables (Cat6). Changing ports on both the VM Hub and the router. Rebooting all devices. Despite all of this, I consistently lose around 50 percent of my available speed between the VM Hub and the router. Any ideas on what could be causing the bottleneck? This isn’t a new issue. It’s been happening for a while now, and I’m honestly just fed up with it.114Views0likes9Comments
