Unstable ping/latency & packet loss

Hi,

Like quite a few others, over the past few months my Gig1 connection has been suffering from periods of high latency & packet loss.  This doesn't really affect streaming, web browsing etc, but it totally kills any kind of competitive gaming.

I've tried factory resetting the router, reseating connections etc.  Nothing's worked.  Does anyone have any advice?

On your downstream power levels. Are they always around  - 6.5. Also are you using a hub5.

If so that is the very bottom end of what VM Deam to be in the exceptable range.

    -7 to +10.

Also as you can see from the quality monitors there is clearly a problem bud.

Get a VM tech out to level out your power levels firstly and go from there.

Yeah, it's a Hub 5 connected to a TV/broadband splitter, which then goes through 2 attenuators (3dB & 6dB) before connecting to the FTTP>coax box on my living room wall.

I've removed the 6dB attenuator and now my power levels are a few decimals either side of 0...

        Hi mrBi0 👋

Welcome back to our Community Forums and thanks for your post.

I am sorry for the issues with your Broadband. I can appreciate this isn't ideal.

I've ran some checks for you and I can see there is a uptime issue. Your Hub hasn't been rebooted in 21 days.

Although designed to be constantly powered on, the device can go stale over time.

Please reboot the router and let us know if this helps with the connection 🙂

The engineer came out yesterday, checked signal levels in the house, cleaned the fibre ends coming in from the street & also replaced my router.  Hasn't made much difference I'm afraid - still getting frequent periods of high latency and the occasional blast of packet loss.  Ignore the large red area between 2 & 4pm - BQM hadnt picked up my new IP after the router was swapped out...

      Hi mrBi0,

Thanks for coming back to us on this and updating us on how the visit went.

We're sorry to see you've not noticed much improvement. Once a hub has been replaced, it can take some time to settle back on to the network.

How has things been since you posted? Are you still having continued issues or have these improved?

Pop back and let us know so we can help further.

      Thanks,

Things have much improved since the weekend.

It's been pretty stable with low latency and no packet loss since Sunday!
