Traceroute through New York?

is it normal for a traceroute via new york to be normal? my latency since UPGRADING has gone from 18ms to 40ms, and i'm being routed through new york, call center say this is the same for everyone, is this true? or have i just been swapped onto an incorrect CMTS?

Thanks,

  • Online traceroute services, which execute the command from servers across the globe, including New York City, can be used to test connection from a specified place, such as New York.

  • Restrictions
No Path Control: You cannot choose which intermediate cities or paths your packets will take using standard networking tools. The equipment of the different ISPs makes routing decisions depending on intricate protocols and current network conditions.
Geolocation Inaccuracy: IP geolocation is not a precise science and can occasionally be wrong, however hostnames may provide a broad notion of a router's location.
Dynamic Routing: A traceroute executed a few minutes later may display a different route since the path might change dynamically.

  • Executing a Traceroute
Use these methods to see the real route your current internet traffic takes to a certain location:
    In Windows:
Press Windows Key + R, type cmd, then hit Enter to launch the Command Prompt.
Enter the destination IP address or domain name after typing tracert, then hit Enter.

  • How Traceroute Operates
Your computer sends out a sequence of packets with progressively rising "Time to Live" (TTL) values when you use the traceroute command.
The TTL of the initial packet is 1. The TTL is lowered to 0 and your computer receives a "ICMP Time Exceeded" notification from the first router it encounters. This shows the round-trip time and IP address of the initial hop.
Until the packets arrive at their destination or the maximum number of hops is achieved, the procedure is repeated with a TTL of 2, 3, and so forth.
Each hop (router) along the path is listed in the command output along with its IP address, which is frequently resolved to a hostname that may indicate its geographical location,

  • Traceroute is a diagnostic tool that traces the path your data takes to a destination; however, it is not possible to compel or specify the path via a metropolis, such as New York, using ordinary traceroute. Depending on current network conditions and configurations, different routers and Internet service providers (ISPs) dynamically choose the path that packets take over the internet.

  • How to run a traceroute
    Launch the command prompt:
On Windows, type cmd after pressing the Windows key + R.
Launch the Terminal program on Linux or macOS.
    Put the command in here:
Enter the IP address or domain name of the destination after typing traceroute or tracert, followed by a space (e.g., traceroute www.google.com or tracert 8.8.8.8).
    Hit Enter:
When the command is executed, a list of "hops," or the routers your data travels through, along with the time it takes to get there, will be displayed.

  • Open the command prompt, type traceroute then hit Enter to run a traceroute across New York. Your data's path will be shown by the tool, and you can frequently see the cities or geographical areas that traffic travels through, including New York if it's on the route.

Cannot be incorrect CMTS, for an area they are all in the same location or an adjacent one.
What is the target of your trace route?

Post output of a trace route to ‘BBC.co.uk’.
