IP / Traceroute through Luton

I'm located near county Durham so having my data routed through Luton is confusing to me, IP also shows there too (not much of issue as BT gave me far away IP's before). I've seen a post or 2 without any resolve about using a local node instead of one so far away. Now ping is between 11-14, not bad at all, but with it being on their new XGS-PON network (NextFibre), I was expecting between 5-10ms, especially as my old GFast connection was a stable 12ms

Speed tests to "local" locations - Newcastle / York / Manchester give a higher ping. 17-20ms on various servers for each. This indicates to me its hitting Luton then back up north again, then to me, but I could be wrong.

New install today, Hub 5x of course being on XGS-PON

So why is it i'm routed through Luton and could this be why the ping is higher than I expected? Also is there a way to have my WAN IP change to be more local (I've seen this mentioned)

Is there an application or streaming TV service that is not working ?

I can only assume as this type of network kit is relatively new, VM is currently routing it to anywhere there is spare capacity. As project Mustang rolls out & their traditional cable area headend hubs start handling XGS-PON as well as DOCSIS connections you will find your routing will change.

Unfortunately the traceroute has been removed for some reason, tracerts are frequently posted here and never usually removed so not sure what the problem is with this one, but it would be useful to see it.

If you are using a service like https://whatismyipaddress.com/ to determine the IP is in Luton, I would ignore it. It just means the last person to have that IP was in Luton. It takes about 4-6 weeks to update when someone else gets given the IP.

Let's look at my trace route to google.com. As you can see the first visible hop is 80.255.195.134 and not the core router connected to the CMTS. So, some changes are being made and we can but speculate, but here's a possibility. VM has offloaded its network to NetCo for wholesale purposes, and there has to be a handover point (downstream of the CMTS and upstream of the OLTs) for the ISPs. So, what I'm seeing here could be a NetCo transit router for the handover.
