Error message "Line in use"

I have a BT6500 phone and every time I try to call out I get a "Line in use" error message. Anytime there's an incoming call it goes straight to the message service. 

I have tried carrying out the phone line test but it progresses to 99% and then just sits there indefinitely.

I don't have another phone to test but it was working in January when I was with SKY (moved to Virgin at the end of January).

What next steps should I take? Any feedback welcome.

Welcome to the Community, I'm very sorry to learn about the problems you're experiencing with your telephone service lately.

 

I've been able to locate your account and run some tests on the line from our end for you, we're seeing some problems and I'd like to arrange for an engineer to come and take a closer look at this from our end, if you're available?
