Change of Number

I recently changed my daughters number on EE and they did this over the phone immediately with the SIM she already had in her phone.

I called Virgin to do the same with mine and they are not able to do this I have to wait for a new SIM, why can Virgin not do this the same as other networks I now have to wait another 2/3 days when I am getting some serious nuisance calls
