New Customer 13mbps download 6mbps upload on 100mbpsUp/6mbps line area 20 Help.

Hi All,

I am new here just joined Virgin on Friday the 6th but the speed was not very good getting around 30-35MB, called Virgin on Saturday and an engineer was booked for yesterday. Engineer turned up yesterday said the signal was too high and he fixed it. Got 100MB right there around 9am. Byt evening speed was down to 20MB granted it was High peek, but on Saturday the Virgin staff I spoke with mentioned High utilisation etc but I have heard the terms and virgin so much I am not sure what it means anymore.

My speed has been going down even during low peak times. Can anyone help me please.?

I also have a couple of questions:

Is there not a minimum speed promised even during peak period?

What is this high utilization being thrown about all the time and is there an end in sight or is it a permanent.

this looks like a over utilzation issue in your area at peek times thats between 4pm to midnight monday to friday and all day weekends its a extra demand of internet in your area creating a imbalance load on the network/congestion on the network the staff here will say the same thing i did just now it can take over a year to sort this out ask them for a fault ref and get updates on this and get them to credit your account thats all that can be done atm they can't control any 3rd parties like roads that can effect relay of the wires and upgradeing the stuff inside box's

That minimum speed at peak times on the website you read 158Mbps for 200Mbps connection..how can i put it without swearing..A load of rubbish.. if your in an overloaded network

The problem they have in a nut shell is there is to many people on the network at peak time this in VM's world its 'peak time utilsation'.(you would think an honest company would tell when you ordered)

In a funny kind of way you have actually made the problem worse and then the next customer who joins will make it worse for you and so on..

Now you may ask yourself how a big company like VM did not budget, allow time, plan etc.. If you find out let us all know because according to VM it takes over 12months to get a permit to dig a hole

If you only joined on the 6th. Do yourself a favour and cancel while you can. It won't get any better.

This is worrying, but I don't understand why a fibre to cabinet connection will not experience such terrible drop in connection and a cable connection does.

@dejavus
VM should have been upgrading these areas inline with the uptake of the broadband service. But they have been greedy and 'forgot' to upgrade but they continue loading customers onto the connections which cannot cope with the demand.

Re: New Customer 13mbps download 6mbps upload on 100mbpsUp/6mbps line area 20 Help.

Here is tonight speed test, i can never get over 5Mbps from 3pm to about 2am.

bbtest10012017.png

this is perfectly acceptable in VM's eyes, they lied when i moved into the property selling me 200Mbps knowing perfectly well the network was so overloaded since January 2016 (i moved in July 2016.)

promised it would be sorted on many occasions so over the last 6 months this is what it is like being a vm customer in an overload network segment..

Best advice i have been give is to leave or put up with it an take the credit each month of a few quid.

some ask why i dont just leave? Well i thought vm where a decent company and i have gave them chance to sort it.  But patience will only go for so long and reading these forums it is full of empty promises..
