Broadband running at half speed - 90Mb/s rather than 200Mb/s

[ Edited ]

I have a 200Mb broadband package and I used to be able to get download speeds reliably around this figure until the end of May. However, since then the maximum speed I can get is around 90Mb/s.  Upload speeds are consistently OK, around 12Mb/s

Speedtest results are as shown below. I have also verified these speeds using thinkbroadband.com. All tests carried out with the same configuration using a hard-wired Ethernet cable from the router with the Superhub in modem mode.

I had a similar problem earlier in the year which I resolved by switching off the Superhub for around 5 mins and then powering up. I have tried that again 2-3 times but it makes no difference. [Note that even when I turn the Superhub back on after 10 minutes it appears to be immediately 'ready' - with the blue tick illuminated, i.e. it doesn't see to go through the power-up sequence with flashing lights that I would expect as it tries to establish a signal]

As far as I can tell the Downstream/Upstream stats look OK as per below.

Nothing has changed in the configuration at my end so I assume the problem must be somewhere in the Virgin Media network.

Re: Broadband running at half speed - 90Mb/s rather than 200Mb/s

You are being locked on to a 10/100 connection, and not a 10/100/1000 gigabit one which is needed for speeds over ~90Mbs.

Usual suspects are:

Ethernet cables (check for wear, try a different one)
Network driver settings.
Equipment not capable of gigabit (seems ruled out as you've had speeds above)

This is not something VM control, it's the connection between hub and PC running at 10/100.

Re: Broadband running at half speed - 90Mb/s rather than 200Mb/s

Thanks Shafreya.

It turns out the Ethernet cable between the Superhub and the router was the culprit. Replaced with a brand new cable and now all is well.

Thanks for your help
