150 mbps boost package? FREE?

I'm currently on a SuperFibre 60mbps package with VM. When logging into 'my virgin media' i got the following update:

Your speed boost is ready

Boost your speed from up to 60Mbps to up to 150Mbps
Hold on tight. We're ready to increase your speed

Is there a charge if i accept this offer? or is it a free upgrade. The offer on page makes no mention of the process or anything else, only a button to accept/order.

Re: 150 mbps boost package? FREE?

Hi Liveammo,

Welcome to the Community!

There's no charge for the Speed Boost.

This Speed Boost should have gone through automatically. I've passed it over to one of my colleagues to get this sorted and your speed should be boosted within 24 hours.

Let us know if you need anything else.

All the best! Smiley Very Happy

Josh

Re: 150 mbps boost package? FREE?

On the broadband speed test, im getting 35mb and 12mb upload...is that normal?

Also how can i benefit from 5GZ bandwidth as I cant seem to locate the settings in the hub 3.0 web interface?

Basically im buying a new PC for gaming (tbh for battlefield 1 only lol). Is there a way I can tweak the router to get best performance especially during gaming. Unfortunately cant use ethernet connection as the HUBs next door, so any config recommendations for wifi?

If it helps my wifi adapter support AC, and both bandwidths, 5 and 2.4mhz/ghz

Re: 150 mbps boost package? FREE?

ok this is a little odd

I used speedtest.net back in December 2016 when I was on the 60mb package and got the following:

Now after receiving 150mb upgrade i used the same test and got this reading:

Ran the test several times - same result. I was getting 50mb download on the old package and now only 35mb on the new one. 15mb drop?

Though the upload saw a significant change for the positive, the download has slumped

Whats going on?

Re: 150 mbps boost package? FREE?

Are you testing wired or wirelessly?

As you've asked about the 5ghz band I'm assuming wirelessly on a device that doesn't support the 5ghz band. In which case the speeds you are seeing are typical of the 2.4ghz band.

If you are testing wirelessly, can you test wired to see what the real speed is? If that's a wired test already it needs looking into.

Re: 150 mbps boost package? FREE?

I'm currently on a SuperFibre 70mbps package with VM but when I login I'm not seeing any message about free upgrades?

Whats the deal with this free 150mb upgrade?

Thanks

Re: 150 mbps boost package? FREE?

If you're on 70Mb, you've already been boosted (50Mb to 70Mb).

100Mb customers got boosted to 150Mb.

@reck

To add to cje85's comment. 60Mbs is what was boosted to 100Mbs ages ago if you opted in. This is why it's offered the boost from 100 to 150Mbs that the other loyal 100Mbs customers got, as it should of been 100Mbs already.

However your package was 50Mbs and boosted to 70Mbs which is current. This is why there is no speed boost offfered to you as you've had it.

Re: 150 mbps boost package? FREE?

There's quite a difference between 60mb -> 150mb and 50mb -> 70mb wouldn't you say?

Also what's with this opting in business? There's no reason to think anyone wouldn't want a free upgrade so why not just automatically upgrade everyone instead of posing it as a question to customers? Isn't there a risk customers might miss out?
