Huge Lag Spike & Packet Loss. Impossible to play on PC and Console

Hi

Recently have been getting lag spikes across the whole day for nearly a week now. It is terrible during peak hours, making it impossible to play.

I am connected via...

Modem ----- Router ----- Wired PC.

I rubber band across the screen nearly all the time. It's getting bad to point that even video streaming is being affected. Is my connection being throttled to point where I wonder what's the point of this service. Considering I have been with you guys for a very long time, I am surprised why this has yet to be resolved, nor flagged on your system.

Please view the following and get back to me as a matter of urgency

Re: Huge Lag Spike & Packet Loss. Impossible to play on PC and Console

I have been onto Virgin for about the 10th time today seems like there are a few people getting packet loss. I have had an engineer out and everything was fine (he adjusted my power levels but nothing major). Any way this changed nothing was still getting packet loss last week making online unplayable.

It has started again today and a few people on here are suffering the same 15-20% packet loss.

Called Virgin and they are sending out the engineer for the third time although there are many of us suffering the same issue at the same time it seems unlikely to be anything local especially seeing as I have had a replacement router checked it on 3 PC, 2 Xbox Ones and even tried the new router in Modem mode still getting packet loss.

I know it wont last all day so I have posted my BQM graph to show its intermittent.

I am starting to look at alternative suppliers now.

What own router do you have?

Any device you may have connected that runs a short burst download or upload can cause ping spike.

For packet loss post your downstream, upstream and logs from the super hub.

Everyone in a different areas on a given network segment for given routes can all have different problems so every case can be different.

Re: Huge Lag Spike & Packet Loss. Impossible to play on PC and Console

Arnie lad has been getting the same percentage of packet loss at the same times as me and this has happened about 5 times over the last week. Even as we speak we have it now and I can guarantee as soon as mine stops so will his.

You could set your watch by it.

Earlier this week 3 of us posted a BQM chart and you could not tell them apart over a 24 hours period. The odds on this being a coincidence would be astronomical.

The determining factor we have in common is we are in the 20 Region and all have 100mb +.

Virgin are still treating each case individually and are sending the 3rd engineer to me next week who will no doubt say everything is fine and the cycle will start all over again.

Re: Huge Lag Spike & Packet Loss. Impossible to play on PC and Console

Hi

This was yesterday.

79cd03a4c455b9710873fff6ad181434-07-04-2016

Today

I'm still rocking an old Webstar 2100 with my trusty WRT54GL w/ tomato firmware on a 10 Mbit connection and have no desire to require any faster as I need a good connection first and foremost. I have QoS in place to ensure that I have the best connection in the house. If there was any streaming taking place, this will be taken care of. All my physical connections have been checked. I have good quality CAT 5 cable running around the house. Videos are fine as they are buffered. Gaming, as you well know, requires a rock solid connection which to VM's credit have provided until this problem started.

Anytime I start playing CS:GO or any multiplayer game on any device, and the rubber banding begins and I get kicked off servers because of it. Considering this has happened to a few people, I doubt changing the modem will solve this.

I am trying to better understand the networking side as a trainee Network engineer, but this has me baffled and I can only point to my ISP in regards to the next port of call.

You may need to enable ICMP echo request from your super hub, though I cannot be sure.
