Installing VM Fibre to Block of Flats
We have a block of 24 flats in West Sussex. The flats are situated in a street where Virgin media fibre has been installed to every property in the street apart from the block of flats. In fact there's literally a Virgin media telegraph pole next flat grounds entrance. There are some Virgin fibre cables connected to this telegraph pole which passes the block of flats to the two neighbouring buildings down the street. The previous estate Director said the Virgin Media fibre network was installed in the street a few years ago there was a plan to connect the flats to the network but due to the pandemic it was paused then never restarted. I've only recently taken over as Director and wasn't part of previous discussions so that's about as much as I know and unfortunately the other Directors aren't sure about the previous plan. As mentioned, there are 24 flats in the block and we a fibre connection, therefore, presumably this may be an attractive opportunity for VM. Additionally, the other Directors and myself are happy to explore and sign up to wayleave if required. I did previously speak with someone over the phone on customer service who stated they would look into this and get back to me, but I haven't heard anything for over a month. Just wondering if this is something that can be explored as we're really keen to get fibre installed and given there is a relatively new VM fibre network in the street with a connection point very close, I'm guessing this wouldn't be too onerous to have installed?XGS-PON FTTP Installation Issues
Hi, has anyone else who’s recently had XGS-PON FTTP installed experienced problems with the Hub 5x failing to obtain an IP address from Virgin Media’s network? My install and activation was scheduled for the 8th, but I’ve had no broadband connectivity for the last two days. An engineer came out today and attempted to escalate the issue to Virgin Media’s XGS-PON technical team. We’re the first household in my area to switch to Virgin Media. It’s a nexfibre build location where VM are the only FTTP provider. The engineer suspects that either being one of the first customers in the area, or being the only connection on the underground distribution unit, might be contributing to the issue. VM are currently investigating and have asked me to wait another 48 hours. Has anyone else run into something similar with their installation? p.s I had a look on the routers information page, it shows that the IPv4 lease time it obtains upon booting is set to one hour in the past, I wonder if this has anything to do with the issue.86Views0likes2CommentsVirgin media boradband available next door but not connected to new property
Hi, I am planning to move to new house by mid march 2025. It's a new build house but there are no vergin media broadband cable connected to the property. I have enquired to near by houses even the next door has virgin media broadband which means virgin is servicing that area and the new property just need to be connected. With this regard I spoke to the developer/builder as well and they informed me that they have ducts and other things ready for virgin to provide connection inside the new house, so accordingly I called your move team but looks like they are telling that the area is not serviceable which is far from the reality. Being a customer of virgin media for last couple of years I could like to continue to have same service in the new property as well. Hence seeking out help here if anyone from virgin could help me here would be greatSolved232Views0likes10CommentsIntermittent internet connectivity - FTTP Hub 5
I am writing to seek assistance with intermittent internet connectivity issues since recently switching to Virgin Media on a 2 Gb fiber plan. While generally the performance meets the expected speed and latency on speed tests, I experience frequent delays of 5-10 seconds in loading web pages. Additionally, voice and video calls suffer from inconsistent quality and I often have to hot spot off my phone to resolve, I work from home and its very meeting heavy and 2 out of 5 meetings I have issues. The issues persist on both wireless (even in close proximity to the Hub 5) and wired connections. I have also tried using my own wireless router with the Hub 5's Wi-Fi disabled, but the problem remains. An engineer recently visited after a two-day service outage/issue (caused by a local area/exchange issue). During the visit everything appeared ok, but the engineer noted a kink in the external fiber installation but stated it was not causing any issues but could need replacing in the future. I am wondering if this kink in the fiber could be responsible for the intermittent connectivity problems. Are there other potential causes or troubleshooting steps I should consider to identify the source of the issue? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I've only been a customer for 20 days but considering terminating contract and going back to FTTC service from a different provider.153Views0likes6CommentsAnother vote for media mode on Hub 5x
I am new customer, still in cooling off period. FTTP with Hub5x, first time on FTTP. For the last 6+ years and 3 ISPs I have run my home network through my own router and DNS (Pi-Hole), IPS modems put in the modem mode. Now I can't, and I can't even disable wifi completely on Hub 5x. It did not cross my mind before I ordered Virgin that it would not be possible to do this. It is ridiculous as there is no technical reason not to let customers choose modem mode or use their own custom DNS. I chatted with customer service and my repeated questions about justification for this decision were ignored. So if anyone in the company is reading this, please do something about it. PS I have tried various options suggested on the web and these forums, but nothing works. I will try to set it up with double NAT but if it doesn't work, I will cancel.179Views1like6CommentsBroadband Availability in Flat
Hello! I am looking to move into a new flat, and as a part of this have checked the available broadband packages! I've checked with Virgin as I have had a great experience previously but it's not available! However, when I check the flat next door, and the other flats in the building, they all have access to Gigabit speeds. Is someone able to help me in this matter! I rely on good broadband speeds for my work. Thanks!Solvedxgs-pon with own router...
Well... Wish I was advised of this during signup. Now cancelled BT which I was happily using (albeit without symmetrical 1Gbps upload), constant 0-8ms ping on games such as Fortnite or to Cloudflare DNS/Adguard DNS and a stable speed over to the "upgrade"..... Can't use my own router reliably, double-NAT, no modem mode (could use PPPoE auth with BT and Sky[Sky needs DHCP Option 61 enabled]), consistent 5-8% packet loss to GeforceNOW (plus the extra 6-10ms latency...), fluctuating download/upload speeds mainly affecting the upload (burst: 700Mbps then drops steadily until the end of the test sometimes as low as 300Mbps). BT had a speed guarantee of 700Mbps, what is it here? Is there any chance of using my own router without their router also being in "router" mode? I've tried everything I can think of to try and get it working and now I refuse to spend anymore time on it when the whole network was fine prior to moving to Virgin xgs-pon. The whole product seems rushed through the door so as to not lose out with new customer take up in new areas... When is this going to change? If it isn't in the next month can I still cancel or what because this is the worst FTTP implementation I've used....?6.7KViews0likes2CommentsInstallation on 16th. How will they get to where it's needed?
Hi all, I live in an area that's just gone live with Nexfibre's network after the dig work was done back in March and I'm due to have Virgin installed on the 16th. My question is, how will they get the fibre to where I need it? It's a 60s built mid terraced house in a new town. It's of the radburn layout meaning the living areas are at the back of the house. The large window on the right is my kitchen and you can just about make out the Toby box in front if the bins which has two feeds, one for me and one for a neighbour. Ideally, I need the service installing in my living room as that large window above the bins is where my kitchen sink is. The living room is actually the small slit window to the left. The window is on the stairs with the living room behind it and ideally, I want the kit installing to the far rear corner of the living room which is where my TV, existing network stuff (including Openreach master socket) is located. Just under the streetlight is the edge of my house on that side and that's where the existing phone cable comes in, underground. There isn't an access point on the outside so I know a hole will need drilling. The metal panel under the streetlight is for the light itself and the little letterbox thing to the side of it is an old electricity meter spyhole for reading the meter. The electric meter is behind it, albeit in a small cupboard. As you can see, the toby is about a yard or so from my wall. I don't have any private area to the front of my house. Step out the door and you're in a public courtyard. Thoughts?Make home FTTP Ready?
I am in Cambridge and my current broadband and phone connection is by a figure-of-8 cable with separate coax and telephone wires. These enter next to the front door and are connected to an equipment cupboard on the first floor where the Hub and phone socket are located. Work is planned to upgrade my electrical system to 100A fuse and a new Consumer Unit which will require passing through the front wall. This might be an ideal opportunity to make my home FTTP Ready. Is there anything that I could specify to make the process easier once FTTP becomes available? What would be required to connect the Virgin Media Box which would be attached to the outside of the house to the location of the existing hub?544Views0likes0Comments
