Solar storms causing problems!
There's been a lot of solar activity (winds, storms, sunspot activity, solar flares, northern/southern lights and CME's) recently and this has been causing problems. The last week of February was affected by erratic download speeds varying from a 98% drop in speeds to around a 10% drop. Upload speed was more or less normal. The USA was hit particularly hard as several websites went down, along with DNS servers. The odd thing was that other wi-fi devices were fine and connected to the internet as usual. My wired machine, however did not. On Friday 1st March I performed a speed test and the download speed is where I'd expect it to be. Another odd thing was that I was able to ping websites successfully, but I could not access them through browsers. NASA are reporting that a lot more activity is coming Earth's way on the 9th. Lets see what happens. I also post the occasional video about this here: https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Community-Natter/What-are-you-watching-now/td-p/2914384 More reading: solar flares and geomagnetic storms - Search (bing.com)4.6KViews2likes27CommentsVirgin TV Go App asking to register same device every time
I have Virgin TV Go App installed on my Windows 10 laptop which is already a registered device with my virgin account. Every time I try to watch live TV through the APP it asks me to register the same device (i.e. replace a device) - I now have this same device 3 times in my list of 5. Plus it is using up one of my 3 changes allowed every time meaning I can't now change for a month. Upshot is I can't watch live TV. I stress that I am using the TV Go APP - not via a browser. Is there a fix for this as I am sure it has been experienced by others? Thanks Sven6.9KViews2likes43CommentsIntroducing the new Virgin Media Community
Huzzah! 🍾 After many years (8!) on the previous iteration, we’re delighted to announce our Virgin Media Community has had an upgrade. 2011 (courtesy of waybackmachine 😊) 2014 2015 Aside from the fact that it's been a while, it’s also given us an opportunity to greatly simplify things and put everything on a crash diet 🍔; We’ve reduced the number of different layouts (over 20 😱) to around 5. This should mean it’s easier to get to grips with particularly for newer users. We’ve removed a lot of redundant background code ❌ that should speed it up as well 🏎. It also allows us to do platform updates in the future without a constant fear 😱 of something breaking. No more going backwards to go forwards! ⏪ There’s now a persistent navigation bar along the top on desktop view or within the menu bar on mobile view so it reduces the instances where you need to go back to a previous page to navigate the site. I have had problems with internet stability for months now. Problems often arise when streaming BBC iPlayer or Netflix. Buffering and stopping. When I restart the router its ok for about 1 day then I can get the problems again. I am restarting the router almost every day now. I have had Virgin Media for years and years with no problems, but its rubbish now. So sick of it I am thinking of going to YouFibre. Dont know how to get hold of Virgin Media support. Can anybody help? Peter.767Views1like4CommentsIs this a scam
Hi. I have received a text message saying "The email address we have for you no longer exists. Sign in or register at virginmedia.com/myverginmedia to update your sign in details to a verified email." I have logged into my account not using that that link and everything looks ok with no message out a outdated email address. Can you verify if this is indeed a scam text message. Thank you.2.4KViews1like15CommentsConstant "no number calls" since moving to IP Telephone from landline (Home) (Resolved)
My area has recently been migrated from landline to IP telephony which seems to work well with one exception. My received calls report 10-20 daily calls from "no number". There is no call made (no ringing) and no message left, just a report that "no number" called and a time. OFCOM state it should be addressed to the provider and the Telephone preference service state they can do nothing with marketing or computer generated calls. This did not happen until switched to IP telephony and has been daily since (coincidentally - I think not). This appears to be a man-in-the-middle network attack and is therefore worrying (as well as filling my recent calls with rubbish). Virgin media say they cannot see these calls, yet their system records it on my recent calls log. Anyone else having this problem or have a resolution? [MOD EDIT: Please see post for an update ]Solved90KViews4likes998CommentsI’m not getting the speed I’m paying for
I’m currently running various speed check tests and I’m beginning to think that Virgin Media is throttling my broadband connection. There’s nothing wrong with the Hub3 - I’ve got it set up to run a mesh network. My tests are run on VM’s side of the connection - so it’s not me that is the problem. And yet regular as clockwork I get 250Mbps for part of the day. Then late afternoon it drops to less than 40Mbps, and who knows when it will get higher. So VM says for M250, I should be getting an average 264Mbps and unlimited downloads.I wish!! I have yet to figure out how to get an engineer to visit so they can prove me wrong. I refuse to let someone remotely mess with the hub and cut me off totally. So just how do I get a guaranteed visit from a VM engineer?Solved9.5KViews2likes7CommentsEmail Help
