Hi, I am a Volt customer. Have had the email from O2 about their price rise from April next year. Will go from an extra £1.80 to £2.50 a month. If I leave O2 what are the implications for the Virgin side of it? I have heard you keep the boosted broadband (but no idea how long for) but have also heard that although that might be the case the cost of the broadband might go up to account for leaving O2. In which case it might be down to whether the O2 rise is less than the potential Virgin broadband rise!

You have to be a O2 Pay Monthly customer to get Volt. It is not available to GiffGaff customers or even O2 Pay As You Go. However if you already have Volt but leave O2, the Virgin Media side of the deal (boosted broadband speed) will remain in place.

I would like to know the following: if I cancel my current O2 sim deal that I have with O2 and go with say GiffGaff, which piggybacks onto O2, would I still be entitled to my Virgin Volt benefits?I can get a GiffGaff 5GB deal[which is enough for me] for £8 a month and no contract, plus I would still get some roaming in the EU as well. Whereas my O2 SIM-only deal will be going up to £12.50 a month.

As far as I am aware, and, to be honest, some of the answers by VM have been a little contradictory, but if you cancel the O2 SIM, then you continue to get the VM benefits (ie double speed), up until you want or need to re-contract with them or change any other part of your existing contract. Then you will lose any VM ‘Volt’ benefits.

So far nothing has changed. Other than I text when I first switched there has been no further communication from either O2 or Virgin. Hopefully it stays that way until my VM contract needs to be renewed,

I'm in the same boat. There is an answer in the link below which seems to suggest your broadband speed will stay the same.

I will be cancelling my O2 sim, Virgin Mobile was so much better for everything.

  Hi mingsy. Have you cancelleed your O2 part yet, if so what happened to the VM part? I was wondering if VM would drop the Volt upgrade, or want to renegociate their contract. I've got until 28th to cancel the O2 part (I've not activated the sim yet, as I don't need it). Basically, the Indian VM Sales Team conned us into believing that the combined VM/O2 Volt deal would be cheaper than a renegociated VM only contract. Now there's a hike in the O2 contract prices.

    Hi, yes I've cancelled O2 and moved to another supplier. After I moved I received a test from O2 saying I would lose my VM benefits, so far it hasn't happened but it's only been a couple of days. As I've already posted, the O2 website says you will not lose the VM benefits but the text message said different.

    Sorry, I have another question.
    My wife has an O2 SIM-only pay-monthly deal [it's not a contract], for which she is currently paying £11.50 a month, but it gives us the Volt deals with Virgin. So could I then cancel my wife's monthly deal in February when my current Virgin deal ends and then go with Virgin for everything,i.e. the mega volt package which includes an O2 sim deal which would then save me the £11.50 my wife is paying for her current month-to-month?
    
    Sorry if that's a tad complicated, but I can't think of a better way to put my dilemma into words

Hi, as a VM customer, I also had a letter from O2 about the unfair price increase. I don't really understand the Volt benefits apart from what is stated on my bill M350 boosted to M500. I don't know if this worth the price increase? I can get a cheaper mobile phone deal
