Just seen the announcement of Sky Sports+.

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/32461/13131189/sky-sports-launches-in-august-to-give-more-ch...

Doesn't seem to mention Virgin Media anywhere. Curious if there's going to be an update regarding this for us customers paying for Sky Sports on Virgin.

I phoned VM today and they are arranging for my V6 box to be upgraded to a 360 and send a new remote out. I believe from what I’ve read that a 360 is needed as the V6 upgrade will be later. I hasten to add, this is what I believe, I may well be wrong.

If they can talk you into migrating, believe me they will. It may not be necessary, but the start of the new football season is a way away yet.

this is correct.  Sky Sports+ is not going to work on older Virgin (or Sky) boxes, including V6 (and Sky+)

On the assumption this is correct, how will those with a V6 box access the new service?

It’s the typical thing with VM. They cannot even get the story straight amongst their own staff. VIPs have been told there is a new background app in the pipeline for the V6, as the satellite streams Sky has been providing VM for the TiVO platform will no longer be used. There is also this recent post:

life long history of Virgin and Sky not actually working together for the greater good.

Virgin Media TV customers who subscribe to Sky Sports will have access to Sky Sports+ when it launches in August.

This does not indicate this will be on the tv or via a red button this leaves it to be seen that we are going to be using the sky sports app to watch the football via our virgin logins.

Hi there @Mobes

So sorry to quote the above message but I think it should answer your question: We’ve decided that until the new red button app is available for the v6 and TiVo boxes we’ll keep the old app available. This means you’ll still be able to watch the EFL matches via the red button, but you won’t have the enhanced F1 and Tennis functionality until we roll out the new red button app to these boxes.

Once the updated app is available we will alert customers, thank you. "

So can you let us V6 users know if it will or it won't????

Thanks

Some Sky+ info below copy pasted from /efl.com/how-to-watch/sky-sports-q-and-a/

How can I watch my EFL Club from season 2024/25?

  • Matches will be broadcast live across both existing Sky Sports channels or on the brand-new Sky Sports+, via live streams, a new dedicated channel, and a revamped app for TV and mobile devices.
  • This will effectively replace the EFL's domestic streaming option provided via iFollow and club streaming services.

I am a Sky subscriber, do I need to pay extra to watch my team?

  • Customers with a full Sky Sports subscription do not pay extra to access Sky Sports+
  • Once live, Sky Sports+ will simply drop into the existing Sky experience, across Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Q, and NOW.
  • The revamped Sky Sports app will also become the ultimate home of sports streaming on mobile devices with Sky Sports+ streams accessible directly from the app.

Are all of these matches available on Sky Sports main channels?

  • The 1,059 matches will be split across the branded Sky Linear Channel (main channel) and the new Sky Sports+ offer
  • More than 193 matches will be available on Sky Sports main channel:
    • 118 Sky Bet Championship matches
    • 19 Sky Bet League One matches
    • 19 Sky Bet League Two matches
    • 15 Sky Bet EFL Play-Off matches
    • 19 Carabao Cup matches
    • 3 Bristol Street Motors Trophy matches
  • A further 866 fixtures will be available on Sky Sports+, including:
    • 210 Sky Bet Championship matches
    • 229 Sky Bet League One matches
    • 229 Sky Bet League Two matches
    • 74 Carabao Cup matches
    • 124 Bristol Street Motors Trophy matches
  • All other fixtures are protected by Article 48 and are not broadcast into the UK

After receiving different messages, I emailed Virgin and they emailed me back telling me I would be able to get the extra games on my V6 box. I think I’ll have to wait and see because I’m dubious but I really don’t want 360.

From what I’ve read it seems there are mixed messages from VM, a case of who you speak to. As my team is in the Championship and based on extensive research I decided to go for the 360. It’s taken a while to get used to but I’m happy enough with it. The only minus for me is the loss of recording programs I might like. I had The Stones and Bowie setup to record whenever their name came up in the info. The biggest plus is Disney and Apple in the menus and being able to use speech instead of typing.

I can understand you holding back but to put your mind at rest, should you decide late to change, the new remote comes through very quickly. My son pressed the upgrade on Friday and the new remotes came on the following Wednesday.
