When is sky sports not sky sports?

Recently I've watched tennis on various sky channels prior to them launching sky sports tennis.  Today on my tivo box I find no sky sports tennis SD and a greyed out tennis HD which I would expect as I don't have HD

is this a fault somewhere?

    Hi again garypjackson

Sorry, I misunderstood your last post < here>  I thought you had finally made the switch and changed to a 360 box.

The tivo is an old box and is no longer issued to new customers. It  does have problems with iplayer  and red button functions.   You should be looking at  upgrading it to either a V6 or a 360.  The V6 uses the tivo interface the same as your current box, is faster, has double the storage and more apps. The red button works on all Sky Sports channels, with the exception of Sky Sports Tennis. As explained previous posts, Sky Sports Tennis multiplered button  HD streams (& additional interactive content) are provided by a different IP driven method which is only available on the newer 360 and Stream (horizon based) boxes.

So if you want that additional functionality which is available on the Sky Sports Tennis channel (and a few more apps) then you need to upgrade to 360/Stream.  With Stream boxes you can only have one per property so they are unsuitable for multi room houses plus they don't have a hard drive for recording purposes.

    Hi garypjackson

Sky Sports Tennis HD on is on channel 520, and Sky Sports Tennis SD on 537

Tennis is also currently showing on Sky Sports Arena.

Also try pressing the red button on some of the Sky Sports channels as they are showing tennis feeds for some of the additional matches.

    Thanks Dave!

All present and correct now. Wonder if the red button will ever work and whether we'll get catch up?

      Hi again Gary,

If you only have the older tivo box it might be an idea to upgrade to the V6 box - if the tivo breaks it should be replaced with a V6, or it might be worthwhile negotiating a new deal and ask for a free swap to V6.

I have V6 boxes and the red button is not working for the Sky Sports tennis channel.

Does this mean I have to change to 360 box, which I have previously avoided?

Hey garypjackson, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear this.

Does any red button features work for you at all?

What happens when you try and press the red button, is it only tennis is still happening with?

        Hi Matt,

BBC Iplayer works but for Sky tennis you just get a splash screen from Sky saying there are no interactive events on this channel at present. This is a permanent fixture even when the red button icon appears

    V6 supports red-button multi-streams for (IIRC), cricket, golf & F1

The recently-launched multi-streams for football & tennis are currently exclusive to TV360. I don't think that will change, but only VM will know for sure. Users who have V6 and want this, will have to put this into the melting pot of pros & cons between the two platforms.

      Thanks for your suggestions.

Eventually managed to speak to a technician at VM 3 hours ago after 3 calls and jumping through their hoops responding to online help text (Grrrr...)

Spent 30+ minutes attempting to get the technician? to understand the problem.  Now awaiting a response....

So - no further forward.  Why oh why don't they make their technicians? aware of likely current issues?  I encounter this craziness every time I have an issue.

The Sky Sports background app on the V6 boxes can only pick up additional (highly compressed) SD broadcast streams provided by Sky. Sky are not providing these streams for Sky Sports Tennis. The Horizon boxes (V360 & Stream) now have an updated app that pulls multiple HD streams (& additional interactive content) off an IP driven circuit. I think it unlikely that Sky will develop an updated app for the ageing TiVO platform. They have been doing the same with their own Sky+ customers, who now have far less facilities than those with SkyQ or Sky Stream.

So the issues with VM V6 box and Sky Tennis is down to Sky, not Virgin Media?

Looks like the only option if I want to watch tennis is to change to VM 360 box.  Frustrating!

This is from the internet but seems to explain it -

I received the new remote control in the post today, and set up the Virgin 360 software on my Virginmedia box, and hey presto, I now have access to all the matches on the Sky Sports Tennis Channel, via the red button. It’s such a relief to finally get it sorted out.

So how do I upgrade from my old tivo box?

      Hi again garypjackson

If you have an old tivo box (not a V6) it will need swapping out for a 360 mini box

360 boxes (horizon) aren't supposed to be able to be run in conjunction with tivo/V6 based boxes and VM systems shouldn't allow tivo/V6 boxes to run alongside 360 boxes. If you have a currently working tivo box, and it's included in your package as an additional box then it should stop operating now that you have a working 360.
