Since my landline switched over and now plugs into my router, those calling me have mentioned that the ringtone now sounds like an international call with a long ring rather than the traditional British ‘ring ring’. Has anyone else experience this and how can it be changed back? When making external calls from landline, I hear the traditional ring ring, so would not have known anything was different.
thanks

Hello @hotlips69
Sorry for the delayed reply.
I do have an update for you.
If a call is made from a 21CV phone then the dial tone will remain the same as it has always been.
If a call is made from another network, mobile or the old standard telephone line. Then it will go though our exchange as what we call an off net call. This is when the international dialling tone appears.
The bottom line is depending who is calling who, it is possible to get different ring back tones and the only call case that we can 100% control on 21CV is a 21CV to 21CV call.

Thanks Gareth for update, I'm not too tech savvy so my next question is what is a 21CV phone? Does it mean that if the landline handset calling me is a digital touch tone phone using old style copper wiring network,or even old style rotary, which to be fair are pretty obsolete nowadays, then that's when the problem is present? Also why would this not show correct caller display info at our end?
Cheers.

Hello charliebrown44.
Sorry I should have explained what 21CV is.
Basically it is the wording used for the line to go through the the Hub. 21CV is short for 21st Century Voice.
So any calls from another 21CV will keep the standard ringtone.
Any calls from a n alternative landline, mobile etc, Have to go through our exchange first. They then get routed to the recipient. As this call is routed through, it is hard to know where the caller is based, so it then gives the international dialling tone.
It is not based on the handset being digital at all.
Hope that explains it a bit clearer for you.

Reporting back on the engineer's visit yesterday and my expectations were 100% met. That is, I wasn't expecting a positive outcome and didnt get one! Reinstalled the hub and the issue remains.
Not sure why level 2 support insisted on sending an engineer, it was not my request?
Following the debate above on 21CV doesn't appear to tie up with my experience. If I ring my landline from my O2 mobile, it can either prompt a UK ring tone or an International one. The explanation above suggests that is not possible and that it should either be one or the other and not both. Am I missing something here?

Hello jimgironde.
Thanks for your patience.
I may have got a little confused with my last reply.
If a call is from another 21Cv laine then we are able to control the dial tone.
If a call is from any other supplier/network, then it is completely random whether the dial tone will be normal or international.

But this has all only started from the moment the landline was connected to the router, so what else has changed anywhere on the entire phone network?
