Out of frustration like many others, I've done my fair share of slagging off VM for this debacle
However, not having access to thousands of historical emails has given me the opportunity to re-think "do I really need this stuff going back 10 years plus". It's like clearing out the garden shed...you keep everything just in case, but when you have a clean up and chuck stuff out you realise what a pointless exercise your hoarding was.
Yes, I too had holiday details, confirmations of things that I needed, tickets in the pipeline etc. but a few phone calls to the originators quickly reinstated the essentials.
One of my accounts has been restored, I'm waiting on another but frankly I can do without 99% of it. I've unsubscribed many of my created folders and will delete them when the data is returned.
VM provide me with my broadband service which I must say is the quickest around and their service and equipment (Hub v4) has been pretty good and reliable and competitively priced compared to other mainsteam suppliers.
My comments may be controvertial but I don't think VM is activly trying to dump or discourage email services as many have suggested...for home and small business use they're not bad compared to many. And although the email restoration is becoming protracted, they did back up and are restoring mail boxes in due course.
My penniesworth...
