Weird call

Hi

Has anyone else been receiving calls, from what sounds like an Indian lady, about your Internet from the following numbers

015********* and 012*********

Looking forward to hearing feedback

Very likely a scam call. VM does not make unsolicited, proactive technical support calls to its customers.

If the caller claims that 'hackers have taken over your connection', 'someone has accessed your router', 'VM has detected a problem with your connection', or anything similar-sounding, then these are all scam calls.

Just hang up on them without talking to them and do not accept any offers to 'fix' the imaginary problem by downloading remote access software to your devices.

The numbers used are either fake, or clones of real numbers used by innocent parties. Calls enter the country via the internet & usually originate from India, where UK authorities have no durestiction.

  • Hi cmarais

Thank you for your post, welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear you've received some strange calls - what was the call regarding specifically?

We'd never call our customers to advise them of a fault as this would be something that customers either need to report to us or check here.

We do sometimes call customers for marketing purposes, however as the other community members have advised above, those numbers don't look genuine.

If you do still have any concerns or if there was anything we could help you with, just let us know.

I also get these type of calls, several day sometimes to my hub connected home phone, some start with a pre-recorded message saying there are charges on my card for amazon etc. If you put the phone down, as I do, they often will ring back again.

These calls are typical of the calls often shown on the BBC show scam interceptors which often exposes the scam call centres in India.

I also get lots of calls relating to energy/ insulation which also are a pre-recorded message.

One unusual trick they do recently  is to use a spoofed phone number with your "own area code", I though I had missed a call and  re-dialled and it was the salvation army number they had spoofed.

I did hear that  in the future phone number spoofing will be stopped, I  hope so
