So I have ftth it was installed just before the hub5x was deployed. I was told to request one when they come out as I am on the ftth network

Cheers Tom.

Hi again Tom

That's the hub 5 so it confirms as indicated in earlier posts by @nodrogd and @Roger_Gooner that you are on the legacy HFC installation. Therefore the highest speed you can currently get is 1Gig.  You've been given incorrect information by the installer that you could get a hub5x when they came out. The hub 5x doesn't work on the HFC installations.

You wont get a hub 5x until such as time as your area is upgraded to  FTTP (XGS-PON)  Gig 2 is available in some Virgin Media Full Fibre Areas only (approaching 1 million nexfibre premises) -  you can download their latest rollout plan < here >

You might have a long wait as VM are in the process of upgrading millions of their legacy Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC /DOCSIS 3.1) powered lines to support the latest Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTP/XGS-PON) technology, which they aim to complete by 2028.

Thanks for the info is crazy to think they used legacy tech as my street was only done 6 months ago

If you have fibre to your home and an attenuator fitted to the hub, then you are in an RFoG area. The hub's attenuator reduces excessive power from the ONT fitted to the exterior wall (although a preferable solution might have been to reduce power from the OLT to the ONT). The good news is that when VM migrates you to XGS-PON, it will be a lot simpler than most of us who are on HFC networks as the fibre and cabinets are already in place.

Hi guys and gals

so firstly thanks for the Info,

So it would seem as some of you guys have said i have been Lied to by the installing Tech who stated i should get a Hub5x when released and be able to go on there 2gig netowrk when i have the new hub,

So it looks like io will have to go through the pain stakeing process to cancelling the account,Real shame as i only wanted this service because i knew there sppeds where due to go up and be on the latest hub etc.

Any advice on how to do this.

Cheers Tom

So i have been reading here that people who are on the 1Gig service Can and have had the Symmetric Speed add-on added to there account but would seem not easy,

I have been through the VM account page on my service with a Fine tough Comb and can not for the life of me see how to get this added

I would like this added asap.

Looking For VM Customer service to look at this please and get this sorted

Cheers T

You can't get it for the same reason you can't get Gig2 per your thread at https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Volt/So-I-have-ftth-but-not-seeing-2gig-option/td-p/5499706

Hay bud so based in your info above. Witch by the way is good and informative. It would look like I am on the RFoG network as I do have a box inside my house witch is powered converting the fiber optical cable to a slightly thicker and in the end of that it is not a screw in cable it has a push in style end with a pin with in the middle of it going in to a 10db attenuator to stable power levels.

Is there any chance of getting the 2gig service on this system or even the service that makes the upload speed symmetrical with the download.

Cheers in advance

"Is there any chance of getting the 2gig service on this system or even the service that makes the upload speed symmetrical with the download." No chance, you are on a DOCSIS connection and until it’s converted to a full fibre connection your max is 1G. VM have not started to convert DOCSIS connections and have not yet announced a timetable.

Hi yes there is a box next to it that has power going to it.
