I’ve recently moved home taking Virgin with me but the new TV hardware I’ve been given is awful. I used to have a proper box with a cable connection and a hard disk that could record. Now I have these little streaming boxes that are really slow and laggy and can’t record. Really disappointing. Is this the way Virgin TV is going? It’s just a streaming service.

If you have full fibre then you can only have a stream box with no hard drive.

If you have a Hub5x with a fibre connection going in, you have moved out of the areas covered by Virgin's traditional Cable TV services. The boxes that record are based on broadcast cable technology & cannot be used with IPTV, so the only option is a streaming box.

You're in an area which provides only IPTV, hence the streaming box. This is the result of the holy grail of an all-IP platform, everyone wants this (will take decades but they'll get there).

I think you mean, "the broadcasters want this"
