Hello, we recently purchased our first home. The home is undergoing renovation. We know that when we are moved in, we will want internet. I’ve set up a package, I have not used yet. So that I could get an engineer out. Today he has arrived and basically just plugged the hub in.
is this what I should expect as an install? Am I expecting too much.
yes, it works. But once there is furniture and flooring, it will look awful. If virgin were willing to leave a wall box and an extension, I’d do it myself.
i feel like leaving already, before I’ve used it, and seeing if openreach will do better.
If not, I’d rather have a sim only WiFi dongle, and no wire sticking out of the floor.

Are people not up to telling the techs that visit "no, that's not acceptable and I won't sign it off" any more?

I'm not sure where I stand on this one. On the one hand it looks like the installs guy reckoned he had a quick one on his hands here and just plugged the new kit into the legacy cable before speeding off to Greggs for a coffee and a hot pasty. On the other hand I can sort of understand him not doing a conventional installation given that everything around the kit and cabling foes indeed seem to be the imminent subject of substantial redecoration. Maybe call VM back once it's all done (although there might be a £25 fee).

I'm wondering if you gave any instruction throughout the install, such as "you can't drill into my newly painted walls"?

I specifically said, I don’t mind any damage, I’ll repair it myself. When he arrived he said he’s not allowed to do anything cosmetic.
i was not able to be home at the time, but spoke to him over the phone, I requested it just be extended long enough that I could make it tidy, infront of the outlet. He agreed, and I hung up. I came home to this.
There js a 1/4 inch gap, beneath the skirtings.
He told me the carpet fitted will carpet over it.
I just worry about the serviceability of it, as now the only connection will be beneath the flooring.
is a wall box not like a minimum requirement? Is having a cable sticking out of the floor actually the done thing?
I have never had virgin before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. But in a home with no other networking connections, no telephone port etc, it seems a little bit strange to have the only usable connection, beneath flooring.

I think it's acceptable considering your house is a work in project. I'm not sure what you were expecting. The technician doesn't know what your plans are for furniture.
Did you want him to screw a box onto your skirting making your router less flexible to relocation?
