Red light hot hub

Sandy13
Tuning in

Hi my hub, think it's a 3, has a permanent red light on which didn't bother me as not hot and Wi-Fi working but now it's hot, it's upright with airflow, this has only happened since I got Virgin TV last year. The hubs are not close and I'm worried about the Router. Is it because it's old? Thanks for any help

Hi @Sandy13

Welcome to the community forums

Sorry to hear of your concern with the red light on the router. The red light on the Hub 3 can be just a LED error rather than anything more concerning. Firstly, let's try a 60 second pin hole reset on the router to see if this fixes the LED. This will revert any customisations back to factory settings and full update the router with firmware/software updates. Please do not reboot the router whilst it is completing the pin hole request.

Keep us posted with how you get on after the reboot and we'll check again at our side.

Hi thanks for the help but I've already tried all the unplugs, resets etc, nothing has worked. Sorry I should have added to my original post. Wifi hasn't been brilliant since the router got hot. So I turn off at night sometimes

We'll need to try the 60 second pin hole reset to see if this does rectify the LED error as we can see on the systems at our side.

Please do let us know once you've tried this and we can continue to support should you need.

Er - the OP says the Hub 3 is hot.  Fire risk?  Good to turn it off at night.

Yes I do turn it off at night, scary it is 🙄

I do add that if the advice VM's team provide on this forum for a hot Hub is negligent (as in reboot and wait 24 hours), and the Hub catches fire and causes damage or injury, I would hold them liable in law.

It should be their policy to replace a Hub 3 with a red light. AFAIK, Hub 3s being provided now are refurbs and may be 8 years old (my Hub 3 back in the day dated back to 2016.

No question about this. The red light is a warning that should not be ignored.

Until it's been replaced, don't leave it on overnight or when there is no adult in the house to keep a check on it.

There seems to be no consistent response to this from VM's representatives.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.
