Hub 5 and Ideal Halo heating controls

Since being "upgraded" to the Hub 5 my Ideal Halo heating devices have not worked. After weeks of trying to get help from Ideal, they eventually responded asking this ...

please can you check the following.

  • DHCP server access is active to allow for an IP address to be supplied.
  • Port 8883 is open to allow access to the AWS cloud service.

I can't find anything to answer this anywhere, and VM no longer employ contactable staff (even the useless chat thing has gone!)  ....

Can anyone help??

The hub falls over at this type of thing you may need to look at getting a better router with 1Gb ports and use modem mode.

But because this is a new hub the wifi password and SSID would have change so have your updated the Ideal Halo heating with that that?

I have updated the WiFi password and the Halo is connected but drop off most of the time.

I can't get into the Hub5 it says the password is wrong. Any idea how i change that?

There are two passwords for the Hub, and both should be on the bottom.  One is the Wifi password, and the other is the admin settings password.  If the settings password has been changed from the factory one, there is no way to recover a forgotten password.  However a pinhole reset will set both the passwords back to the ones on the bottom of the Hub.

As for the Wifi drops, if you are not using the VM Pods, you can split the SSID as below, and also make sure the Hub's Wifi 6 is set for legacy devices.

To split the SSID;

• Access your Hub by navigating to 192.168.0.1
• Login with the default login info (on base of Hub) unless you've already updated it.
• Go to Advanced Settings > Wireless > Security
• Under Wireless Frequency 2.4GHz change the Wifi Network Name (SSID), suggest append _2 to the end.
• Repeat for the Wireless Frequency 5GHz, suggest append _5 to the end and click on Apply changes
• Try to avoid spaces and periods in the SSID names as they can cause issues with certain devices.
• Disable the Smart Optimisation on the wifi bands.

To setup the Wifi for legacy;

Access your Hub by navigating to 192.168.0.1
Login with the default login info (on base of Hub) unless you've already updated it.
Go to Advanced Settings > Wireless > Wireless signal
In the Wireless frequency 2.4GHz select Wireless mode > 802.11b/g/n/ax mixed
Select Apply changes
