Cannot play BBC iPlayer at all on my laptop.

When I tried to play anything from BBC iPlayer on my laptop, it says 'BBC iPlayer only works in the UK. Sorry, it’s due to rights issues.BBC iPlayer only works in the UK. Sorry, it’s due to rights issues.'

I am in UK and, according to 'What is my IP address' search, my IP location is London, even though I am based in West Yorkshire, and my ISP is AVAST Software s.r.o.

The question is how I can leave AVAST as I have no connection with them, and get to the point where I can watch anything from BBC iPlayer.  I have no problem watching the content on my phone as the IP is Virgin Media Limited with the correct location.

Thanks.

Paul

Avast's VPN is called Secureline so look for any apps called Avast Secureline (or just Secureline) and remove them.

VPN's that are automatically installed by anti-virus or other software are becoming a real nuisance for non-techie users as they often block access to legitimate sites (especially streaming services).

I've found that sometimes when I follow a link to this forum with NordVPN on, I get a message saying "You are banned from this forum".  If I turn off the VPN it lets me in.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

I'm on NordVPN now (in Vienna).  (And iPlayer works).

I'm sure there's an ongoing battle between VPN providers and the likes of the BBC and Netflix. After all it's an important selling point of the VPNs to get round their restrictions.

The use of a VPN is as legitimate as the user sign-on to a site such as iPlayer,  I don't think it has been tested in the Courts as to whether a copyright holder's restrictions are violated by a bona fide BBC user, domiciled in the UK, watching copyrighted material from Vienna (or wherever).

I pay for my TV licence and I fail to see why I can't watch BBC iPlayer when abroad with a VPN.

Nothing to stop them - as @Highway says.  Nevertheless NordVPN is  a very good VPN.   Anyway, the issue as I understand it is the copyright conditions for SOME of BBC's material.

It's Netflix that really drives against VPN use. For them it's about $$$.

There is no Secureline or Avast Secureline installed on my laptop.  The funny thing is I can watch iPlayer on my phone and TVs around the house.
